Nga. Because of the gross and the subtle, these are shown in order. That's it. The third has two parts: how to train in general conduct, and especially how to train in the last two pāramitās. The first has two parts: the pāramitā that ripens one's own Buddha dharma, and how to train in the four saṅgrahavastus that ripen others' minds. The first has six parts: how to train in generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. The first has three parts: the nature of generosity, its divisions, and how to generate it in the mindstream. The first is: the mind of giving is virtuous, and the actions of body and speech that arise from it; that is the mind at the time when body and speech are engaged in giving. In this regard, the perfection of generosity is not dependent on the giving of objects to others and the elimination of the poverty of beings, but rather on the complete perfection of the habit of giving to others, along with the fruit of giving, after destroying the clinging of miserliness, which becomes the perfection of generosity. The second has two parts: the divisions depending on the respective bases, and the divisions of the nature of generosity itself. The first is: in general, material generosity is practiced by lay bodhisattvas, while ordained bodhisattvas should practice Dharma generosity and not material generosity, as stated in the Prātimokṣa of bodhisattvas. This is also stated in the Compendium of Trainings, considering that it may become an obstacle to listening, etc., that it is forbidden for renunciants to strive for material things and then give them away. If one obtains a lot due to past merit without harming one's own virtuous activities, then one must give material things. Sharawa said: I am not telling you the benefits of giving, but rather the faults of clinging. It is a talk that renunciants are not pleased with, that they desperately seek and accumulate wealth, causing many injuries to ethics, and then give it away. The second is that Dharma generosity is to teach the excellent Dharma without distortion, and to rationally explain the faultless ultimate of worldly activities such as crafts, and to cause them to enter the foundation of training. Fearless giving is to completely protect from the fear of kings and thieves, etc., from the fear of humans, and from the fear of non-humans such as lions and tigers, and from the fear of the elements such as water and fire.

Giving is, giving possessions to others. The third is, merely destroying miserliness towards body and possessions does not make it the perfection of giving, because miserliness belongs to the category of desire, therefore even the Hearer Arhats have completely abandoned miserliness including its seeds. Therefore, not only should the obstruction to giving, the clinging to miserliness, be eliminated, but the thought of giving all possessions to others should be generated from the bottom of one's heart. For this, it is necessary to contemplate the faults of completely grasping and the benefits of giving. The first is as stated in the "Moon Lamp Sutra", the body is impure, life is as unstable as water on a steep cliff, and both body and mind are under the control of karma, therefore there is no independent self, and one should regard it as false like a dream and an illusion, thereby rejecting attachment to it. If this is not reversed, one will be controlled by attachment, accumulate great misdeeds, and fall into the lower realms. Secondly, as stated in the "Compendium of Trainings": "Thus, my body and mind, go away moment by moment. If with this impermanent, defiled body, I obtain the permanent and stainless, pure enlightenment, is that not a priceless treasure? This is a priceless gain." As it is said. The actual method of generating it is, as stated in the "Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "Body and likewise enjoyments, and all the virtues of the three times, for the sake of accomplishing the benefit of all sentient beings, I will give without any miserliness." As it is said, taking the body, enjoyments, and roots of virtue as the object, one should repeatedly practice the thought of giving everything to all sentient beings. Now, because faith is not yet mature and strength is weak, although in thought the body has already been given to sentient beings, in reality flesh and blood and so on are not actually given. However, if the thought of giving up body and life is not cultivated, there will be no habituation, and eventually one will not be able to give up body and life, as stated in the "Compendium of Trainings", therefore one must cultivate this thought from now on. Thus, after giving food, clothing, etc. to sentient beings from the bottom of one's heart, if one forgets the thought of using these things for the benefit of others, and instead uses them with craving for one's own benefit, that is defiled. If there is no craving, but the thought of focusing on all sentient beings is forgotten, or if attachment arises for the sake of another sentient being, that is a non-defiled downfall. That which is dedicated to others
