That practices all aspects. That is to say, there is no acting in all ways for the sake of others in this. As for abiding and liberation, abiding the mind on the object is the handprint of meditative concentration, and liberation from cyclic existence is said to be the handprint of wisdom. If these two are distinguished separately, one will not confuse calm abiding with insight. The third is: first, by abandoning entanglement, one eliminates its poverty. Then, one does not harm any sentient being. Moreover, one endures harm from others. By being their friend, one initiates tireless perseverance. Relying on meditative concentration, one makes them willing through miraculous powers and so forth, and when they have become suitable vessels, one explains well relying on wisdom, and by severing their doubts, one causes them to be liberated, therefore it is certain to be the six perfections: not being impoverished and not harming, enduring harm and not being weary of actions, making them happy, and speaking well, for that reason, the benefit of others is one's own benefit. The fourth is: in this way, one is not attached to having obtained possessions, and one does not seek after what has not been obtained, therefore one does not look to possessions. If one has them, one is able to protect the training, therefore one takes up ethics and respects them. One is not weary by enduring the suffering that arises from relying on sentient and non-sentient beings. One is not weary of whatever virtuous activity one engages in with joy. The six yogas of calm abiding and insight, non-conceptual meditation, gather all the great vehicles of beings, and those are accomplished in sequence by the six perfections, and there is no need for more than that: not being manifestly pleased with possessions, great respect, not being weary of the two, non-conceptual yoga, all the great vehicles are exhausted here. The fifth is: the path or method of not being attached to the enjoyment of objects that have already been obtained is generosity, because by becoming accustomed to giving, one separates from attachment to it. The method of restraining the distraction of striving for the sake of obtaining objects that have not been obtained is ethics, because for the vows of a monastic, all distractions at the end of actions do not arise. The method of not abandoning sentient beings is patience, because one is not disheartened by all the suffering that causes harm. The method of increasing virtue is perseverance, because it increases from initiating perseverance. Obscurations

The method of purification is the last two perfections, namely, using meditation to purify afflictions and using wisdom to purify cognitive obscurations. Therefore, it is determined to be the six perfections, namely: not being attached to objects is the path; having obtained it, there are other precepts to guard against distraction; not abandoning sentient beings and increasing; and other purifications of obscurations. Thus it is said. The sixth is: the essence of learning through discipline is discipline, and if there is giving without seeking gain, then accepting it is the retinue of discipline. Having accepted it, guarding against scolding with patience, such as not scolding back, is its retinue. Meditation is the training of the mind, and wisdom is the training of wisdom. Diligence belongs to all three trainings, so it is determined to be the six perfections, namely: having mastered the three trainings, the Victorious One truly proclaimed the six perfections, the first three, the two kinds of the last two, and one also belongs to all three. Thus it is said. In this way, with what kind of perfect basis, accomplishing what kind of benefit for oneself and others, abiding in what vehicle, possessing how many kinds of skillful means, the basis for practicing what kind of training, and perfecting the meaning, the Great Vehicle, skillful means, and trainings, and gathering them together, know that it is the six perfections themselves, and until you have gained great certainty that it is the summary of all the key points of the bodhisattva's practice, you should contemplate. The second has three: the order of arising, the order of inferior and superior, and the order of coarse and subtle. The first is: if there is unattached giving without seeking gain, then uphold discipline, and if you have discipline that protects against misdeeds, then you will be able to endure harm. If there is patience that does not tire of asceticism, then there will be few obstacles and you will be able to generate diligence. If you practice diligence day and night, then equanimity will arise, which can make the mind useful for virtue. If the mind abides equally, then you will realize reality as it is. The second is: the former is inferior to the former, and the latter is superior to the latter. The third is: the former are easier to enter and act upon than the latter, so they are coarse, and the latter are more difficult to enter and act upon than the former, so they are subtle, as it says in the Ornament for the Sutras: Relying on the former, the latter arises, because it abides in inferior and superior.
