For things that are not agreeable, one has to use them reluctantly. For example, one has to force oneself to use medicines and food that are not agreeable. Similarly, one has to resort to harsh treatments such as burning with fire and cutting with knives. What will separate from life is seeing that the disease cannot be cured and causing suffering, and one should think carefully about these. Fourth, there are five points to contemplate the suffering of death: separation from the four things of wealth, foundation, retinue, and a beautiful body, and experiencing intense suffering and discomfort at the time of death. One should repeatedly contemplate these until one's mind becomes disgusted. The way the first four become suffering is to suffer from seeing separation from those four. Fifth, there are five sufferings of encountering unpleasant things: just encountering an enemy causes suffering and discomfort; they punish you with penalties, putting you in a state of fear; fear of bad words; fear of dying like being slaughtered; and fear of falling into evil destinies after death due to violating the Dharma, and one should think about these. Sixth, there are five sufferings of separation from loved ones: when separated from the most cherished relatives, sadness arises in the heart; wailing is uttered in the mouth; the body is harmed; remembering the virtues of that place and longing for it, the heart feels pain; and the enjoyment of that place cannot be satisfied, and one should think about these. Seventh, there are five points to contemplate the suffering of seeking desires but not obtaining them, which is similar to separation from loved ones. Not obtaining what is desired, such as plowing but not harvesting, doing business but not making a profit, etc. For what is expected, even if one strives to seek it, one cannot obtain it, thus producing the suffering of disappointment. Eighth, in short, there are five points to contemplate the meaning of the sutra that says, "In short, the five aggregates of clinging are all suffering": it is a container for manifest suffering; it is a container for suffering dependent on manifestation; it is a container for the suffering of suffering; it is a container for the suffering of change; and it is transformed into the nature of the suffering of conditioning, and one should repeatedly contemplate these. Among them, the first point is that, depending on taking this aggregate of clinging, the suffering from the next life onwards

are the causes that lead to suffering. The second is that which, relying on the already formed aggregates, becomes the basis for aging and so on. The third and fourth are the karmic connections of these two sufferings, which give rise to them. The fifth is that merely by the formation of the clinging aggregates, the nature of the suffering of formation arises. Because all formations that are under the control of previous actions and afflictions are the suffering of formation. If a genuine sense of weariness does not arise towards the nature of the cycle of clinging aggregates, there will be no place for the arising of a genuine mind seeking liberation, and great compassion will not arise for beings wandering in the cycle of existence. Therefore, whether entering the Great Vehicle or the Small Vehicle, this thought is extremely important. The second is, from the Letter to a Friend, the six faults of impermanence, insatiability, repeatedly abandoning the body, repeatedly taking rebirth, repeatedly changing from high to low, and being without a companion, are summarized into three: there is no place to trust in samsara, and no matter how much one enjoys its pleasures, there is no end to satisfaction, and entering from beginningless time. The first has four: it is not reliable to obtain a body, which is repeatedly abandoning the body. It is not reliable to do good or harm, which is that parents become spouses, and enemies become friends, etc., which are uncertain. It is not reliable to obtain prosperity, which is falling from high to low. It is not reliable to associate, which is going without a companion. The third is repeatedly taking rebirth, that is, the end of the cycle of births is not visible, and one should think about it again and again in this way. Furthermore, most of the happiness felt in the present moment that increases attachment is the thought of happiness arising from rectifying suffering, but there is no happiness by nature that does not depend on eliminating suffering. For example, when suffering from walking too much, the thought of happiness arises from sitting down, which is because happiness gradually arises when the previous suffering gradually disappears, but it is not happiness by nature. Because if you sit for too long, it will cause suffering as before. If it is the cause of happiness by nature, how can it show the cause of suffering?
