Knowing this, one will think that one should not do anything that is not in accordance with the Dharma, and thus one will not be attached to this life. The Venerable One said that until this thought arises in the mind, the path of all Dharmas will be blocked. Dolpa also said: At the same time, accumulate merit and purify obscurations, pray to the deities and gurus, and think earnestly, even with the marrow of your bones, even if you think that it will not arise for a hundred years, conditioned phenomena will not stay, so how will it arise? When asked to move the mind to Karmapa, (Karmapa) first repeated the previous words, and when asked again, (Karmapa) said: There is no breakthrough at all. In this way, relying on a spiritual friend, as well as leisure and endowment, impermanence, etc., wherever they are, as long as you know that they are scriptures and commentaries, and protect them as practice at that time, you will easily understand the Buddha's intention. You should understand it in the same way at other times as well. Secondly, since it is certain that one will die quickly, there is no time to stay in this life, and after death, one is not non-existent, but must take rebirth. Moreover, there is no other place to be reborn except for the two realms, so one will be reborn in the happy or miserable realms. Moreover, one has no autonomy and is subject to the karma of others, so one will be reborn as one is led by black and white karma. In this way, if I am reborn in the miserable realms, what will I become? Thus, think about the suffering of the miserable realms. Nagarjuna said: One should remember the hells that are extremely hot and cold, like a single day. One should remember the hungry ghosts who are emaciated by hunger and thirst. One should look at and remember the animals who are full of the suffering of ignorance. Abandon the causes of these, and practice the causes of happiness. The human body of Jambudvipa (Earth), which is difficult to obtain, when obtained, is the cause of the miserable realms, and one should be extremely careful to cut it off. Therefore, in general, contemplating the suffering of samsara and especially the miserable realms is extremely important. Like this, if one thinks of oneself sinking into the ocean of suffering, one can eliminate arrogance and pride through renunciation, see suffering as the result of non-virtue, and thus avoid sin and downfall very carefully, because one does not want suffering, so one wants happiness, and also sees happiness as the result of virtue, and thus likes to do good, according to one's own experience, generate compassion for others, generate renunciation for samsara, and thus pursue liberation, suffering.

Being afraid of suffering, taking refuge strongly, etc., is a huge compendium that includes many key points of practice. Although the merits of suffering in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara are spoken of in terms of the suffering experienced by oneself, it is the same for those who will experience suffering. Therefore, there are three ways to think about the suffering of the lower realms: the suffering of hell, animals, and hungry ghosts. The first has four types: the great hell of sentient beings, the neighboring hell, the cold hell, and the temporary hell. The first is: 32,000 yojanas below here is the Reviving Hell, and from there, every 4,000 yojanas there are seven other hells. Thus, in the eight hells, the first, the Reviving Hell, is: those sentient beings gather together and, due to the power of karma, strike each other with various weapons. Then, when they faint and fall to the ground, a voice comes from the sky saying: May you all be revived. Then they stand up again and strike each other as before, experiencing immeasurable suffering. The Black Line Hell is: those sentient beings born there are marked with black lines in many places, such as the four corners, by the hell guards, and then they experience suffering such as being cut along the black lines with weapons. The Crushing Hell is: when those sentient beings gather together, the hell guards make them squeeze between two mountains of iron, like the faces of mountains and goats. Then they are immediately crushed by the two mountains, and at that time, torrents of blood flow from all the doors. The Howling Hell is: those sentient beings search for a place to live and enter an iron house. Once inside, fire burns everywhere, burning them. The Great Howling Hell is: the same as before, except that the iron house has two stories. The Hot Hell is: those sentient beings are put by the hell guards into countless yojanas of iron pots, which are very hot and burning, and they are roasted like fish. They are pierced from the buttocks with a burning iron skewer and come out from the top of their heads, and fire burns from the two holes of the mouth, eyes, nose, and ears, and from all the pores. They are laid face up or face down on the burning iron ground and beaten with burning iron hammers, causing them to suffer in hell. The Very Hot Hell is: iron
