It is also said that there are many contradictions. Even if it is the nature of discrimination, it is the nature of proper attention, so non-discriminating wisdom will arise, so if you want to attain wisdom, you must rely on it. These words are to prevent the Chinese masters from not relying on teachings and reasoning, and not attaining the view of realizing suchness, but saying that as long as nothing is paid attention to and abiding in samadhi, suchness can be realized. It is very important to understand these ways of refutation. These methods of practice are also mentioned in the previous instructions of the Stages of the Path. As it is said in Potowa's "Vase": Some people establish selflessness through reasoning during hearing and thinking, but say that they only practice non-discrimination during practice. If so, it is an unrelated emptiness, because it is practiced separately, so it will not become an antidote. Therefore, even during practice, one should separately observe one and many separations, dependent origination, etc., on the basis of familiarity, and slightly abide in non-discrimination. Practicing in this way can be an antidote to afflictions. Those who want to follow Lhacig and want to practice the Paramita practice, this is the way to practice wisdom. This is also the way to practice after becoming familiar with the selflessness of persons. It's like this. Jowo (Atisha) also said: Who can realize emptiness? It is Nagarjuna and Chandrakirti, the teachers and disciples who were prophesied by the Tathagata and who saw the truth of the Dharma nature. Relying on the oral instructions transmitted from them, one can realize the truth of the Dharma nature. It is said like this. Jowo also taught its guiding method in the "Madhyamaka Instructions", which is similar to Shantideva's view and has been elaborated. Therefore, one should understand as before the six dharmas that combine shamatha and vipashyana, as well as how to practice the main practice, post-practice, and in between sessions, especially how to practice away from sinking and excitement. Fourth, the measure of accomplishing vipashyana after practice: In this way, by observing and practicing through discriminating wisdom, before the arising of the previously mentioned pliancy, it is in accordance with vipashyana, and after it arises, it is vipashyana with characteristics. Because the nature of pliancy and

The way of arising is as previously stated. This also has the pliancy of body and mind that is brought about by the abiding in stillness that has been accomplished and not declined, so it is not merely having pliancy. Then what is it? If through the power of analytical meditation (vipassanā), pliancy can be induced, then from that point on it will transform into insight (vipassanā). This is the same for both insight that focuses on the extent of things and insight that focuses on the nature of things. As it says in the Gongrel: 'Bhagavan, until the bodhisattva has attained the pliancy of body and mind, how should the mental activity of contemplating the objects of samadhi within the mind be called? Maitreya, it is not insight, but it should be said to be in accordance with the aspiration that is in accordance with insight.' And in the Sherchin Mengak it also says: 'He abides in the state of having attained the pliancy of body and mind, and contemplates individually with aspiration the objects of samadhi within the meaning of how he has thought. Until the pliancy of body and mind has arisen, it is the mental activity that is in accordance with insight, and when it arises, then it is insight.' If pliancy can be induced by its own power, then one-pointedness of mind can also be induced. Therefore, this analytical meditation of discriminating awareness that induces stillness by its own power is the merit of having previously accomplished stillness. In this way, if analytical meditation is performed on someone who has accomplished stillness well, it will also make stillness even more excellent, so do not think that performing analytical meditation of discriminating awareness will diminish the focus. Third, the way of uniting stillness and insight is: as previously stated in the context of the measure of accomplishing the two, if stillness and insight are not attained, then there will be no union, so for union, it is necessary to attain both stillness and insight. This will also attain union from the very beginning of attaining insight, and the way of that is to rely on the previous stillness, through the power of analytical meditation, as previously stated in the stage of stillness, when one attains the mental activity of entering spontaneously without obvious effort, then one will enter into union, as it says in the Nyensa: 'He in this'
