Abandoning all that is displeasing: Diligently examine this and that. It is said that the Vajra Holder himself speaks of following the accomplished teacher. Knowing this, with all things, make the Lama completely pleased. As it is said. In short, one should strive to accomplish what is pleasing and abandon what is displeasing. Accomplishing what is pleasing has three doors: offering material goods, serving with body and speech, and acting according to the instructions. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "One should rely on a spiritual friend through respect, gain, and service, and through the door of accomplishment." The first of these is, as it says in the Fifty Verses: "One's own Samaya teacher, not one's own son or wife who is not given away, should be constantly attended to even with one's own life, what need is there to mention wavering enjoyments?" And it says: "Giving this becomes an offering to all the Buddhas, constantly becoming the nature of offering. This offering is a collection of merit, and from the collection, supreme accomplishment arises." As it is said. The second is bathing, anointing, massaging, wiping, and attending to the sick, etc., and praising their qualities, etc. The third is to act without contradicting the instructions, and this is the main thing, as it says in the Jataka Tales: "The offering that is made in return for benefit is to practice according to the words of instruction." As it is said. The fourth is that one is close to the state of Buddhahood, the Victorious Ones are pleased, one is not abandoned by virtuous friends, one does not fall into the lower realms, evil deeds and afflictions are difficult to overcome, one does not contradict the conduct of Bodhisattvas and is endowed with mindfulness of it, so that the collection of qualities increases higher and higher, and all temporary and ultimate purposes are accomplished, as it is said. Furthermore, by serving spiritual friends, the karmas of experiencing the lower realms, in this life, even experiencing a slight harm to body and mind, or in a dream, can purify and exhaust that karma, and surpass the roots of virtue of offering to countless Buddhas, etc., the benefits are said to be extremely great. The fifth is that if one relies on a spiritual friend but acts perversely, then in this life one will be harmed by many diseases and demons, and in the future one will experience immeasurable suffering in the lower realms, as it says in the Fifty Verses: "One should never...

Therefore, one should not disturb one's mind at any time or place. If one does so out of ignorance, one will surely be tormented in hell. Such as the hells of Avici, all the terrifying hells that are spoken of, it is said that they are the places where those who slander the acharya dwell. Also, it is quoted from the commentary on the teachings of the Black Enemy: If one does not regard the teacher as a Buddha after hearing just one verse, one will be reborn as a dog a hundred times, and will be reborn as a leper. So it is said. Furthermore, qualities that have not arisen will not arise, and qualities that have arisen will also decline. If one relies on bad friends and sinful companions, then merits will diminish and faults will increase, thereby giving rise to unpleasant things. Therefore, it is said that one should abandon them in every way. Sixth, in that case, the instruction that is commonly known as Guru Yoga should also be understood as previously explained, and it is not enough to practice it only once in a session. If you want to practice the Dharma from the bottom of your heart, then you must rely on a guru who guides you without error for a long time. At that time, as Achakha Ba said: Relying on the guru can easily lead to aversion. If you do not know how to rely on him, then it will not only be unprofitable but also harmful. Therefore, the Dharma teachings on relying on a spiritual friend are more important than any other Dharma teachings, and it seems to be the root of ultimate happiness. We are burdened with gross afflictions, and we do not know how to rely on a spiritual friend, and even if we know, we do not do it. Those who listen to the Dharma in many places have many faults of relying on the guru, and it is difficult for them to develop repentance and vows. Therefore, as previously explained, one should know the benefits and faults, and from the bottom of one's heart, one should confess the actions that have not been relied upon properly, and one should generate a lot of protective thoughts. If you do this, you will soon become like the Bodhisattva Sadaprarudita and the youth Norzang, who is never satisfied with seeking a spiritual friend. The second has two parts: the actual way to cultivate. The reason why one must cultivate with two ways of cultivation. The first has two parts: how to act in the nature of the session, and how to act in the interval between sessions. The first has three parts: preliminary practices, main practices, and how to act at the end. The first is the six dharmas of preliminary practice, which is the biography of Serlingpa. The dwelling should be cleaned and the supports of body, speech, and mind should be arranged.
