Some say that these two are the same in essence but different in emphasis. As it is said in the Madhyamakavatara-aloka, even in the non-existent, there is no contradiction in having the same entity relationship, so it is good. Therefore, neither of the two different causes is real, or one of them is not real, and in both cases, it is not contradictory to have the same entity but different emphasis. In the commentary on the Entering the Middle Way, it is said: 'The self-nature of all things is shown to be of two kinds, namely, the conventional and the ultimate.' Therefore, each dharma has two natures, the conventional and the ultimate. If the two truths are not the same entity, then it is even more impossible for them to be different entities, because if they have no entity, they will become non-existent, because existent things must have one or more entities. It is also said in the Bodhicitta-vyakhyana: 'The conventional is emptiness, and emptiness is the conventional. Because if it does not exist, it will not arise, just like the conditioned and the impermanent.' If something like a sprout has a different ultimate and entity, then it is also different from the emptiness of its own nature, so the sprout will become truly existent. Therefore, the entity is not different, but the same. Although the sprout is the emptiness of its own nature, it is not its ultimate truth. Some treatises say that the two truths are neither one nor different, some of which refer to the one and different that are established by nature, and some refer to neither the different entity nor the same emphasis. The fourth part has three points: explaining the conventional truth, the ultimate truth, and the determination of the number of the two truths. The first part has three points: explaining the meaning of the words conventional and truth, the definition of conventional truth, and the classification of the conventional. The first point is: In the Clear Words, the conventional has three explanations: obscuring Suchness, mutual dependence, and worldly expressions. The latter is explained as having the characteristics of what is said and what can be said, knowledge and what is known, and so on. Therefore, the expressions of the object are not only knowledge and speech, nor are all that is known and said conventional truths. Among them, which conventional knowledge is considered true in the face of form, etc., this conventional is the first of the three explanations, that is,

Furthermore, for all phenomena, the ignorance that clings to a self-nature that is not established by its own nature as existent is ignorance. Because it is impossible for it to be established as truly existent in reality, establishing it as true is only on the level of the mind. Because it is impossible to establish it as true on the level of a mind that does not grasp at truth. As it is said in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Deeds: "Obscured by ignorance, it is called conventional truth; whatever appears falsely, that is conventional truth; the Buddha said that conventional truth is a false object." Here, in the commentary on the Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Deeds, it says: "Thus, for the time being, the conventional truth is established by the power of the afflictive ignorance, which is encompassed by the limb of existence." That is to say, for the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas who have abandoned afflictive ignorance, they see compositional factors, images, and so on as being of a false nature, not true, because they do not have the appearance of being true. For children, it is deceptive. For others, it is merely conventional, like illusions and so on, arising dependently. Therefore, those who posit the existence of conventional truth posit it as existing through ignorance. It is not that the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas who have abandoned afflictive ignorance do not posit conventional truth on their level. The reason for the first is that, as mentioned earlier, afflictive ignorance is the grasping of truth, so the object it grasps cannot exist even nominally. Because if it were conventional truth, it would necessarily exist nominally. Therefore, if phenomena are posited as existing conventionally, then the conventionality of the place of positing must not be the conventionality caused by afflictive ignorance. The second reason is that for those who have abandoned the conventionality of afflictive ignorance, because there is no conventionality of grasping at truth that establishes it as true on any level, it is proven by this reason that compositional factors are not true in their presence, but it is not proven that they are not conventional truth. Therefore, in their presence, compositional factors are said to be merely conventional, that is to say, in their presence, it is impossible to establish them as true among the two, conventional and true.
