Those can dispel afflictions, and will not cause this realm to deteriorate. Therefore, the sutras that teach emptiness without inherent existence are for the purpose of abandoning afflictions, and not for the purpose of declaring that the realm of self-nature purity does not exist. If someone says this, does it not contradict what was said above? These people have a distorted understanding of the meaning of the scriptures. This is because the meaning of the previous scripture is that the Blessed One said: 'Bhikkhus, there is only one noble truth, namely, the undeceptive Dharma-nature of Nirvana. All conditioned phenomena are false, having the Dharma-nature of deception.' This sutra also says that Nirvana is the truth, and all conditioned phenomena are false. The meaning of truth, the previous sutra has clearly stated is non-deception, and the latter sutra has also clearly stated that falsehood is deception. Moreover, Nirvana is the ultimate truth, as stated in the commentary on the 'Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning.' Therefore, in the presence of the mind that directly sees it, even if there is no self-nature establishment, there will be no deception of appearance. The remaining conditioned phenomena, in the presence of the mind that directly sees them, even if there is no self-nature establishment, there will be deception of appearance. Therefore, if one examines with the reasoning that distinguishes whether or not it is truly established, they are not truly established that can withstand examination, so do not cling to mere names without carefully considering the meaning. Furthermore, the 'Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning' says: 'Existence and Nirvana, both are non-existent, knowing existence is Nirvana, this is called Nirvana.' Therefore, both existence and peace are not self-existent, and it is said that the object of knowing that the establishment of self-nature does not exist is itself Nirvana. Then, how could it be a nihilist who believes that samsara is an empty annihilation without truth? The meaning of the praising scripture is also that the sutras that teach emptiness without inherent existence are for the purpose of dispelling the root of all other afflictions—the clinging to reality of phenomena—and declaring that its object of clinging does not exist, and not for the purpose of declaring that the object of negating clinging to reality—the two selves—and the emptiness of the realm of self-nature purity do not exist. Because, even if emptiness exists, it is not truly established. Therefore, saying that these scriptures deny the truth of what is to be negated, denying that emptiness also does not exist, and the ultimate truth for completely abandoning afflictions

This can serve as a basis for refuting those who say that it is not necessary to understand the emptiness of suchness. Therefore, in the praise itself, it says: "Impermanence, emptiness, suffering, through these three actions, one tames the mind. The most supreme is the Dharma that tames the mind, which is without inherent existence. And so on. All dharmas are without inherent existence, one should meditate in the realm of Dharma." Because these dharmas are without inherent existence, the realm of Dharma to be meditated upon is without inherent existence. Meditating on it itself is considered the best way to tame the mind. Therefore, if these dharmas that appear in this way are empty of inherent existence, and are nihilistic emptiness, how can one place an emptiness that is different from this and truly exists among the emptinesses to be meditated upon? This is like grasping that there is no snake in the east, and in order to eliminate the suffering of fear, pointing out that there is no snake in the east does not become its antidote. It is like saying that one must point out that there is a tree in the west. In order to eliminate the suffering of sentient beings who cling to appearances as true, realizing that the basis on which they are grasped as true is not true does not become an antidote. Because it is like saying that one must point out that another meaningless basis truly exists. The third part has four aspects: the basis from which the two truths are distinguished, the number of ways they are distinguished, the meaning of distinguishing them in this way, and explaining the meaning of each distinction separately. First, regarding the basis of distinction between the two truths, previous people had many views, but here, as stated in the Compendium of Trainings: "It should be known that all knowable things are exhausted in conventional truth and ultimate truth." Therefore, the knowable is the basis of distinction. Second, as stated in the Root Wisdom: "The conventional truth of the world, and the truth of the ultimate meaning." Therefore, they are divided into two: conventional truth and ultimate truth. Third, if it is thought that since they are divided into two, these two must be different, then what is the way in which they are different? To this, many ancient people thought that, like a pot and a cloth, the entities are different; like conditioned things and impermanence, the two differences in which the entity is the same but the reverse is different are things. Any difference in which one is not a thing is a difference that negates oneness. Therefore, there are three differences, and the two truths are a difference that negates oneness.
