Therefore, the mere aggregation of the aggregates is not self. And, because the Teacher said that the aggregates are the self. Therefore, if one considers the aggregates to be the self, then that is to negate a self other than the aggregates. Because other sutras say that form is not self, etc. As it is said, therefore, whatever ascetics and brahmins regard as self and what belongs to self, they regard only these five aggregates. As it is said, the word "only" also prohibits the self, which is different in essence from the aggregates, from being the object of the innate self-grasping. But it is also not showing the aggregates as the object of self-grasping after negating that, because if it were, it would contradict the negation of the five aggregates being the self in other sutras. Because if it is the object of the two types of self-grasping, it must be established as the self. Therefore, the meaning of what is said in the sutra about regarding the aggregates is that it must be explained as focusing on the self imputed on the aggregates. Therefore, the mere designation of "I" as self exists nominally, and the designation of a person as inherently existent as self does not exist even nominally, and these should be understood separately. One should not say that this system holds that the self of a person exists nominally. Such a recognition of a person is a characteristic of this supreme system, and a good understanding of this is a good method for realizing the non-self of a person in a unique way. The second part has three points: establishing that I am without inherent existence, establishing that what belongs to me is without inherent existence, and showing how a person appears like an illusion based on that. The first is: There are four key points here, the first of which is to examine one's own mindstream and recognize the way in which one grasps at a person as self, which has been explained before. The second is: If that person were inherently existent, then he would have to be established as either one in essence with the aggregates or different, and there is no other way to establish him other than these two. Generally, like the words "vase" and "pillar," when something is completely excluded in a way that includes other things, it excludes what does not include other things; and like the word "vase," when something is completely excluded in a way that does not include other things, it excludes what includes other things, which is established through experience. Therefore, there is no third category that is neither one nor many, and therefore, it must be determined that it is also impossible to be neither one in essence nor different in essence. The third is: The person.

And seeing the harm in the nature of the aggregates and the self being one in nature. The fourth is to see clearly the harm in the otherness of the two being established by nature. When these four are complete, then a pure view of realizing the truth of the selflessness of the person arises. If the self and the aggregates are one in nature, there are three faults. The first is that the admission of the self is meaningless. If the two are one in nature, they will become one without any difference. If the nature is established in truth, then the two must not appear as different to any mind. The reason for this is that it is not contradictory for false conventions to have inconsistent appearances and states, but the two must be contradictory in truth, because the mind that appears to be true must appear as it is. In this way, admitting that the self is established by its own nature is for the purpose of establishing the taker of the aggregates, and it is not permissible to become one with the aggregates. This is also stated in the Root Wisdom: "Except for the near-taking, if there is a self, the near-taking is the self, your self does not exist." The second is that the self becomes many. If the self and the aggregates are established as one, then just as one person has many aggregates, the self will also become many. Just as there is only one self, the aggregates will also become one. There is a fault, as it says in the Introduction: "If the aggregates are the self, then because of the many, the selves also become many." The third is that the self becomes subject to birth and death. As it says in the Root Wisdom: "If the aggregates are the self, then there will be birth and death." Just as the aggregates arise and cease, so will the self, because the two are one. If you think that it is acceptable for the self or the person to arise and cease from moment to moment, then there is no fault in thinking so in name, but the other person has already admitted that the person is established by his own characteristics. In this way, that person must admit that he is a being who arises and ceases by his own nature.
