Or it is held that it is established by self-nature. As it is said in the "Inquiry of the Close Attendant": "Various pleasing flowers bloom, golden halls shine brightly, beautifully. Here and there, there is no author, all are established by discrimination. By the power of discrimination, the world is named." Thus it is said that all dharmas are established by the power of discrimination. Also, in the "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning", it is said: "Because the world is conditioned by ignorance, why does the Perfect Buddha say so? Therefore, is it not reasonable that this world is all falsely established by discrimination?" The meaning of this is explained by saying that all phenomena in the world are not established by their own nature, but are merely falsely established by discrimination. Also, in the "Hundred Treatises", it is said: "When there is no discrimination, attachment and other dharmas, whether they exist or not, are not present. Who with intelligence would grasp at the true meaning and discrimination?" As it is said, its explanation also says: Only with discrimination is there existence, without discrimination there is no existence. These are definitely not established by their own nature, just like a rope mistaken for a snake. It is said that although it is not established by its own nature, from the perspective of false establishment, attachment and so on are like a rope mistaken for a snake. But this is not the same as whether attachment and so on exist or not in conventional terms. For these reasons, the way to refute the clinging to truth is: not to think that it is established by the power of beginningless discrimination, but to think that it is established by its own nature on the object. And the object that is clung to is called self or self-nature. This self-nature does not exist on the basis of the individual, it is called the selflessness of the individual; it does not exist on the dharmas such as eyes and ears, it is called the selflessness of dharmas. Therefore, clinging to this self-nature as existing on the individual and dharmas implies clinging to the two selves. In the explanation of the "Hundred Treatises", it is said: "The so-called self refers to the self-nature of phenomena that does not depend on others, and its non-existence is selflessness. This can be divided into two types, dharma and individual, namely the selflessness of dharma and the selflessness of the individual." Thus it is. Regarding the object of the individual's clinging to self, some of the sects respected by many consider all five aggregates, and some consider only the mind to be like a self.

It is explained as engaging in what is considered a support or object. Similarly, among the Mind-Only and Madhyamaka schools, some who accept the Alaya-vijnana (store consciousness) consider the Alaya-vijnana as the object. Some Madhyamikas, such as Lekden, who do not accept it, and many Sravaka schools, consider the mind consciousness as the object. According to these systems, regarding the meaning of the term 'pudgala' (person) applied to those who practice the path and those who wander in samsara, it is necessary to understand two ways: merely 'I,' and the way of establishing the Alaya-vijnana, etc., as the basis of that 'I.' Regarding the innate view of self in self-grasping, it is refuted that the skandhas are the object, and it is stated in the commentary that the self imputed based on the skandhas is the object. It is also stated that the mere collection of skandhas is not the conventional self. Therefore, neither the collection of simultaneous moments nor the collection of the continuum of past and future skandhas is the object. Rather, one should take as the object merely the 'I' that arises with the thought 'I am,' and merely the person. And for the basis of that 'I,' neither the individual skandhas nor the collection is established. This is also a supreme unique characteristic of this system, which has already been explained in detail elsewhere. The object of the innate view of self requires the spontaneous arising of the thought 'I am.' Therefore, although the innate self-grasping of a person who apprehends another person's continuum as being established by its own nature is innate, that person's innate view of self is not. The object of the innate view of self grasping at 'mine' is merely the innate object 'mine' that arises with the thought 'This is mine,' and one's own eyes, etc., are not taken as the object. The aspect is that, focusing on that object, one apprehends 'mine' as being established by its own nature. The object of the innate self-grasping of phenomena is the form skandha, etc., of one's own and others' continua, as well as the eyes, ears, etc., and external objects, etc., that are not included in the continuum. The aspect is as previously explained. In the commentary on the *Entering the Middle Way*, it says: 'Ignorance, which is delusion, is that which imputes that things have an inherent nature that they do not have. It is the nature that obscures seeing reality, and it is conventional truth.' And it says: 'Thus, controlled by the afflictive ignorance that is completely included by the limbs of existence.' Therefore, ignorance is the apprehension of objects as being true, and that itself is afflictive ignorance.
