It is only through hearing and thinking that one thinks that one has realized it. In order to refute the pride in the minds of those who think that way, it is taught that all dharmas must be known individually by oneself. It should be understood that this is to truly refute inappropriate attention, not to refute truly individual observation. If it is not like this, it will contradict a great many reasons and scriptures, as mentioned above. The way in which it contradicts many scriptures is: In the chapter of "Light Protector": Light Protector, what is the true individual observation of the Middle Way dharmas? Light Protector, individual observation of no self, no sentient beings, no life, no nurturer, no man, no person, no power-born, and no power-child. Light Protector, this is called the true individual observation of the Middle Way dharmas. Such statements are contradictory. In the first volume of the Stages of Meditation, it also says: In the Dharani of Entering Non-Conceptualization, because of non-attention, the signs of form, etc., are abandoned. What is said here refers to not paying attention to what is not found when examined with wisdom, not just not paying attention, like the absorption of non-perception. From beginningless time, attachment to appearances such as form, etc., cannot be abandoned by merely abandoning attention. As it is said, the explanation of this Dharani is also clear when this teacher made it. In short, for the Great Vehicle, there is no view other than the two views that are widely explained by the treatises of the Holy Nagarjuna and the Holy Asanga. Moreover, the holy scholars and accomplished masters of Tibet and India also seem to necessarily rely on either of these two views, that is, the views explained by these two. Therefore, it is necessary to search for these two views as they appear in their respective treatises. Among them, the method of searching by relying on the treatises of the Holy Father and Son (Nagarjuna and his son) has been explained earlier. Even if one follows the Holy Asanga, one must recognize that the grasper and the grasped are different in substance, and therefore are empty in all aspects. However, for children, these appear as if they are different in substance, and they cling to these appearances as true.

On all imputed phenomena, after completely refuting them (referring to imputed phenomena) on top of other-powered phenomena (referring to dependent origination) with scriptural and logical proofs, and after gaining firm conviction in the perfect reality of non-duality, the still meditation of resting in that view, and the meditation of examining with individual discriminating wisdom, these two must be done. Even if there is such an understanding, but when meditating, if one does not rest in that view, merely not thinking is not considered meditating on emptiness. The way to ascertain the view of that school is very clear, and the meaning of the ascertainment, the way to cultivate calm abiding and insight meditation respectively, and the way to combine them, are very clear in the pith instructions of the Prajnaparamita, so one should look there. If one understands this school well and meditates as it is said in its scriptures, it is also very wonderful. In the Mahayana scriptures, there are many instances of revealing only summaries of profound meanings, but there are also many that are not revealed. Therefore, what is not revealed must be guided from the revealed scriptures; what is not extensive must also be guided from the extensive scriptures. Similarly, one should also understand the extensive aspects. Whether it is profound or extensive, it is not permissible to hold on to one side that lacks either aspect. Considering this, in the complete characteristics of a guru who guides the path, it is often said that one should be proficient in all vehicles. Third, the key points of the cultivation method are summarized as follows: As mentioned earlier, through obtaining the view of definitive meaning, just like when ascertaining that the basis of the arising of grasping at "I" and "mine," the I and mine are without inherent existence, one should examine many times with the wisdom of individual discriminating awareness, and finally generate the power of conviction in that meaning. One should alternately engage in still meditation that does not waver and examination with the wisdom of individual discriminating awareness. At that time, if the time of abiding becomes short due to too much examination meditation, one should do more still meditation to restore the time of abiding. If the time of abiding becomes long due to too much still meditation, and one does not want to examine, if one does not examine, one cannot generate firm and strong conviction in that suchness, and if it does not arise, it cannot harm the superimposition of grasping at the existence of the two selves, which is the opposite of conviction. Therefore, by doing more examination meditation, one should cultivate calm abiding and insight meditation equally. In the final part of the Stages of Meditation, it says: Furthermore, when insight
