It is the cutter of the root of decay, and like the lifeblood of the path to liberation, it is taught by correct reasoning, so it is necessary to gain a firm conviction in this. Thus, the treatises of the noble masters clearly state that even Hearers and Solitary Realizers have an understanding of the lack of inherent existence of all phenomena, because it is said that liberation from cyclic existence is accomplished by the view of emptiness, which is the lack of inherent existence. This view is also cultivated by Hearers and Solitary Realizers until their own afflictions are exhausted, and when afflictions are exhausted, they consider that to be sufficient and do not cultivate for a long time, so they are not able to abandon the obscuration of knowledge. Bodhi sattvas, on the other hand, do not consider it sufficient to be liberated from cyclic existence merely by exhausting their afflictions, but strive for Buddhahood for the sake of all sentient beings, so they cultivate the exhaustion of the obscuration of knowledge again and again, cultivating with extremely long periods of time and adorned with limitless accumulations. Thus, the antidote that uproots the seeds of both obscurations is the view of emptiness mentioned earlier, but due to whether or not it is cultivated for a long time, it can only abandon the obscuration of afflictions, but not the obscuration of knowledge. For example, the realization of selflessness itself is the antidote to both what is abandoned by seeing and what is abandoned by cultivation, but merely seeing selflessness directly can only abandon what is abandoned by seeing, but cannot abandon what is abandoned by cultivation, so it is similar to having to cultivate for a long time in order to abandon what is abandoned by cultivation. Even so, to abandon the obscuration of knowledge, it is not possible to abandon it by cultivating just that little bit for a long time, but it also depends on relying on many other great practices. Since cultivation is not taken as an antidote to the obscuration of knowledge, but merely as a method for abandoning the obscuration of afflictions, it is said that Hearers and Solitary Realizers do not cultivate the realization of the selflessness of phenomena completely. As it says in the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way": "Hearers and Solitary Buddhas also see only the cause of dependent arising, but even so, they do not cultivate the selflessness of phenomena completely, because they have a method for abandoning the afflictions that operate in the three realms." Thus it is said. Therefore, what other Madhyamikas consider to be the clinging to the self of phenomena, this master

It is held that afflictive ignorance, and although there is the cultivation of selflessness of phenomena to completely abandon it, it is said that there is no complete cultivation of selflessness of phenomena, all of these should be understood as explained previously and in this instance. So, according to this school, what is the object of cognitive obscuration? Cognitive obscuration is the delusion of dualistic appearance, which appears as having inherent existence despite not having it, due to the power of the habitual tendencies that have been firmly established in the mind-stream by the door of manifest clinging to objects that are clung to as inherently existent from beginningless time. As it says in the commentary on the Entering the Middle Way: "Moreover, for those hearers, solitary realizers, and bodhisattvas who have abandoned afflictive ignorance, who see actions, images, and so forth as being existent, it is of a fabricated nature, but it is not true, because there is no pride in being manifestly true. For children, it is deceptive, but for others, it becomes merely conventional by virtue of dependent arising, like illusions and so forth. That is also because it is characterized by the obscuration of knowable objects, and only ignorance is universally practiced. For the noble ones who have an object of practice with appearance, it appears. But for those who possess an object of practice without appearance, it does not." As it is said. The bodhisattva who has abandoned afflictive ignorance, as it is said in the commentary on the Four Hundred Verses quoted earlier, is said to be the bodhisattva who has obtained forbearance of non-arising phenomena, so it should be understood as obtaining the eighth ground. Therefore, for the Arhat of the Lesser Vehicle and the bodhisattva who has obtained the eighth ground, although the power to newly create habitual tendencies of dualistic appearance has been exhausted, there are still many habitual tendencies of dualistic appearance that have been established by it from a long time ago that need to be purified, so it is necessary to purify them for a long time from then on. When those habitual tendencies have been purified and the habitual tendencies of delusion have completely disappeared, it is Buddhahood. The view of the noble father and son (Asanga and Vasubandhu) shows that the definitive meaning of the views of both the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle are the same. Regarding this, two amazing certainties should be drawn: Like this, let alone Buddhahood, even just liberation from samsara, it is certain that there is no way without the view of realizing that all phenomena are without inherent existence. Then, through the door of various means.
