Regarding these meanings, the knowledge basis of the treatises of the Protector Nāgārjuna is: If, etc. This indicates that the four valid cognitions, such as direct perception, do not establish any entity established by its own nature, and this is taken as the basis here. Because it is so, etc., is a summary of the previously stated meaning. How can the eye, which becomes a property, be conventional? This is not showing that conventional eyes, etc., do not exist as properties, but as previously stated, the form established by its own nature or established by unerring direct perception is not even established as a property in name, that is the meaning. Therefore, etc., means that for the two, those who say there is no self-nature established by its own entity and those who say there are real entities, when the sense-sphere of form is taken as a property, since unerring direct perception does not establish a common appearance, in both systems, there is no valid cognition that establishes a property established as a common appearance. Therefore, the position that there is no fault in the proponent to be established to the external opponent by the svatantrika-reason cannot be established. If, even in name, it is so for the side of no self-nature established by its own entity, but we do not accept it that way in name, because there is a svatantrika-property, etc., so if you think there is no fault in the position, then it is unreasonable for such a self-nature to exist in name, because it has been said before and will be said again, so that answer is unreasonable. Secondly, the difference from giving an example is: The Clear Words says: There is no similarity in the example either. There, if one does not want to state the difference between the universal of sound and the universal of impermanence itself, both have it. Similarly, those who say that the universal of the eye is emptiness and non-emptiness have not even accepted it conventionally, and it is not ultimately either, so there is no similarity in the example. That is what it says. The meaning of this is that there is a mere universal of sound that is neither the elements nor the qualities of space, and a mere universal of impermanence that is neither conditioned nor revealed by pre-existing causes, and that neither depends on causes nor does not depend on causes. It is not showing that there are no eyes, etc., that are neither true nor false.
