This also, seeds and so on, will not be gathered by hundreds of thousands of doors. Thus it is. Thus, seeing the faults of the four alternatives of arising, it is established that there is no arising from the four extremes. That is pervaded by the absence of arising by its own nature, as was previously explained when refuting other extremes. Therefore, the absence of inherent existence in things is also necessarily determined by that. This is because when a consequence is stated, an inference arises based on its action, but there is no statement of a proposition that actually establishes the commitment. The Entering the Middle Way says: 'Why do things arise from themselves, from others, or from both, and not exist without a cause? Therefore, all phenomena are devoid of inherent existence.' Thus, the meaning of stating the refutation of the four alternatives of arising is summarized. It shows how an inference arises based on the sign, which is the result of stating the consequence. It is not that the other party's position is established in that way from the beginning. Thus, if one gains certainty about the absence of inherent existence in things based on refuting arising by its own nature, then it is easy to gain certainty about the absence of inherent existence even in the absence of things. Therefore, the Madhyamaka view of realizing that all phenomena are empty of inherent existence is easily attained. Furthermore, the seventh chapter says: 'Whatever arises dependently is inherently peaceful.' Also, the Entering the Middle Way says: 'Because things arise dependently, these discriminations cannot be examined. Therefore, this reasoning of dependent arising cuts through all nets of wrong views.' As it is said, if one gains certainty about the emptiness of inherent existence in sprouts and so on based on the sign of dependent origination, then it is very clear in the mind that one is cutting off the wrong path, so I will say a little about it. Here, a sprout does not have an inherent existence that is established by its own nature, because it arises in dependence on its own causes and conditions. Like a reflection. Thus, one should make an inference that is accepted by others. For example, when a reflection of a face appears, young children think that eyes, ears, and so on appear. Although it is like that in the face of such a mind, one does not grasp that the meaning as it appears is not its own actual state, but one grasps that meaning as its own actual state or way of abiding.

Moreover, sentient beings, regarding the experienced and appearing phenomena, do not establish them by the power of the mind that makes them appear in such a way. Instead, they grasp that things exist on the object's side in their own way, as they appear. This is the way of imputing inherent existence. Such inherent existence of the object is what is meant by self, nature, and independence. If such a thing existed, it would contradict dependence on other causes and conditions. If it did not contradict, then it could not be admitted that a pot that has already been formed does not need to arise again from causes and conditions. As it is said in the Four Hundred: That which arises dependently, is not independent. All this is without independence, therefore, there is no self. And in its commentary it is said: Here, that which is self, nature, independent, and not dependent on others, is not dependently arisen because it is established by itself. All compounded things are also dependently arisen. Therefore, whatever thing exists dependently is not independent, because it depends on causes and conditions to arise. All this is without independence, therefore, there is no self or inherent existence in any thing. Independence is when it appears to be established by itself, these cognitions appear to be independent of others, and it is established as it appears. However, if one takes non-dependence on other causes and conditions as the object and negates it, then it is not necessary to establish it for one's own school, and even if one negates that, one cannot establish the Madhyamaka view. Therefore, one should regard the way of abiding on the object's side in a way that can stand on its own as independence. Therefore, the meaning of emptiness of inherent existence is to be separated from that independent entity, not to be non-existent of functional entities. Because the reason of dependent origination can negate inherent existence. As the end of the previous quote says: Therefore, here, dependent origination is because it is separated from the independent entity. The meaning of being separated from the independent entity is the meaning of emptiness, not the meaning that all things are non-existent. Therefore, to view that there are no functional entities is the entire
