Relying on, and actions also rely on the agent itself, apart from arising in dependence, no cause for establishment is seen. Thus it is said. The agent and actions, one should understand the remaining things. Thus it is said. Therefore, the produced and the producer, the goer and the going, the seen and the seer, the measure and the measurable, etc., all are not established by their own nature, and one should understand that they are merely established in mutual dependence. Thus, if one understands how to establish the two truths, where actions are reasonable, by examining a single individual like myself, and understanding selflessness and the absence of inherent existence, then one can apply that to all phenomena and easily realize the absence of inherent existence in all things. Therefore, one should gain certainty about the example and meaning mentioned earlier. Likewise, in the Samadhiraja Sutra, it says: As you understand the self, so should you apply your wisdom to all things. The nature of all phenomena is pure, like the sky. One also knows all, one also sees all, although many words are spoken, there is no pride born in that. Thus it is said. Second, establishing the absence of self of phenomena. The five aggregates, the six elements such as the earth element, and the six sense bases such as the eye, etc., which are the basis for imputation of a person, are phenomena. These phenomena, the emptiness of inherent existence established by their own nature, is the absence of self of those phenomena. There are many ways to establish this, but in the Madhyamakavatara, it is said in the commentary that the absence of inherent existence of things, by refuting the four possibilities of arising, is the absence of self of phenomena, so here it will be briefly stated. In the first chapter, it says: Not from self, not from other, not from both, not from no cause. Whatever things, in whatever place, arising is never present. Thus it is. Whatever internal and external things arise from self, in whatever place, arising is never present. Thus it is said. Similarly, the other three propositions should also be applied. Thus, arising from self is refuted by reductio ad absurdum. Although such a proposition is made, no example or reason for its establishment is stated, but rather the faults that contradict those propositions are shown. Here, if arising is by its own nature, then it is decided whether it depends on causes or not.
