It is not. As quoted, clinging to water, horses, cattle, men, women, etc., in mirages, illusions, and dreams is harmed by the validity of conventional truth. Therefore, understanding that those things are meaningless as they are clung to is not the view of realizing that phenomena are without inherent existence. Thus, the meaning of illusion explained earlier should also be contemplated by reciting the verses of the profound sutras. That should be done as stated in the King of Samadhi Sutra, as it says: Just as a mirage is a city of gandharvas, Like an illusion, like a dream, Meditating on signs, empty of essence, Know all phenomena to be like that. Just as the moon rises in the clear sky, Its reflection appears in the clear lake, The moon has not moved into the water, Know all phenomena to be of such nature. Just as people live in the forest mountains, Singing, speaking, laughing, and crying, Hearing echoes but seeing nothing, Know all phenomena to be like that. Songs and music, as well as crying, Relying on them, echoes arise, But in the sound there is never melody, Know all phenomena to be like that. Just as one enjoys pleasures in a dream, The person who wakes up cannot see them, Children are extremely attached and cling to desire, Know all phenomena to be like that. Magicians conjure up forms, Creating horses, elephants, and various chariots, In them, whatever appears is not there, Know all phenomena to be like that. Just as a young girl in a dream, Sees a boy born and dying, Rejoicing at birth and displeased at death, Know all phenomena to be like that. Just as the moon in the water at night, Appears in clear and unclouded water, The moon in the water is empty, cannot be gathered or held, Know all phenomena to be like that. Just as at midday in summer, A person tormented by thirst walks, Seeing a mass of water in a mirage, Know all phenomena to be like that. If there is no water in a mirage, Foolish beings desire to drink it, But that false water cannot be drunk, All

All phenomena should be known in this way. Just as in the trunk of a wet tree, although a person cuts it down to obtain heartwood, there is no heartwood at all, inside or out. All phenomena should be known in this way. Thus it is. Secondly, applying the way of accomplishment to the meaning through the distinction of names: Just as when a chariot is designated based on spokes and so on, those limbs are to be taken, and the chariot is the taker. Similarly, when 'self' is designated based on the five aggregates, six elements, and six sense sources, those are to be taken, and the self is the taker, just as the chariot and its limbs are the agent and the action. The self is the agent because it performs the action of taking the aggregates, etc., and the aggregates, etc., are the action to be taken by it, so they are the action. As it says in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: 'Likewise, by worldly convention, relying on the aggregates, elements, and six sense sources, I am also considered the taker. This taking is the action, and this is also the agent.'

In short, just as the analysis of self and aggregates is similar to the analysis of a chariot, so too should one understand pots, cloths, and so on. Are pots, etc., one with their own forms, etc., or are they other? When searching for whether or not they have inherent existence through reasoning that seeks in seven ways, they are not found in either of the two truths, but are established in the face of unanalyzed conventional consciousness. As the noble Sutra of the Three Vows says, "The world disputes with me, but I do not dispute with the world. Whatever the world considers to exist or not exist, I also consider it to be so." Therefore, worldly fame is not obstructed by reason, because it has been promised. As it says in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds, "Pots, cloths, camps, armies, forests, rows of trees, houses, vehicles, small inns, and other things, as well as whatever is explained by the world, should be understood as they are. Because the Victorious One never argues with the world. Limbs, qualities, desire, characteristics, as well as firewood, etc., those with qualities, those with limbs, attachment and its basis, fire, etc., these, through analysis like that of a chariot, are not established in seven ways, but exist in a way that is other than that, through worldly fame." Thus it is said. Therefore, whatever is explained by worldly people should be understood as existing without analysis. And what is that? Limbs and those with limbs, etc. To illustrate with a pot, the pot is that which has limbs, that which has qualities, and the basis. Shards, etc., are limbs, blue, etc., are qualities, and a bulging belly, a drooping mouth, a long neck, etc., are characteristics. The same applies to cloths, etc. Desire is special attachment, and attachment is its basis. This has been explained in the explanation of those with attachment. Fire is the burner, and firewood is that which is burned. Therefore, relying on limbs, one establishes that which has limbs, and relying on that which has limbs, one also establishes limbs, from relying on fire to establish firewood, to relying on firewood to establish fire, and so on. The eighth chapter also says: Agent and action
