If one thinks of regarding a collection with a special shape as self, then, since shape only exists in tangible things, it would be impossible to establish mind and so on as self. As it says in the "Entering the Middle Way": "Shape is said to exist in things with form, you say that is the self, the collection of mind and so on is not the self, because those do not have shape." Therefore, the seven aspects of the nature of a chariot do not exist anywhere. Even so, just as it exists by relying on its own limbs, the self also does not exist anywhere in the seven aspects of nature, such as being one with the aggregates or being different. However, since the two are similar in that they exist by relying on the aggregates, the two are made into metaphors and meanings, thus completing the brief explanation. Fourth, the way in which a person appears like an illusion by relying on it is: There are two explanations regarding the meaning of illusion: One is that the ultimate truth appears like an illusion, and although it is established merely as existence, it is considered to be the negation of truth. The other is that form and so on are said to be illusions, that is, the appearance of appearing as form and so on while being empty of its own nature, like an illusion. Here, it refers to the latter. Moreover, the latter also contains the meaning of the former illusion, but the former does not necessarily contain the meaning of the latter illusion. The way the latter is established is by relying on the two wisdoms of grasping appearance and determining emptiness. For example, the appearance of illusory horses and elephants is seen by eye consciousness, and by relying on the mind consciousness to determine that there are no horses and elephants as they appear, it is determined that appearing as horses and elephants is an illusion or a false appearance. Similarly, people and so on appear without any denial in front of conventional consciousness, and by relying on reason to determine that their own nature is empty of inherent existence, it is possible to determine that the person is an illusion or a false appearance. For this, the existence of appearance cannot be established by reason, nor can the emptiness of inherent existence be established by conventional valid cognition. Therefore, the reason why it is necessary to have both the wisdom of reason that seeks whether inherent existence exists or not and the conventional consciousness that grasps the existence of form and so on is that. Therefore, if you do not want form and so on to appear like illusions, then because there is naturally a worldly consciousness that grasps them, the method of generating it

Therefore, there is no need to strive. For those, analyze extensively with the reasoning that discerns the presence or absence of inherent existence, and generate a strong conviction that inherent existence is negated. Then, when you look at the arising appearances, they will appear like illusions. There is no way to separately establish emptiness like an illusion. Emptiness that merely distinguishes the inherent nature of arising and ceasing, etc., in the appearance of phenomena through the knowledge of reasoning, is emptiness like the sky. And then, although empty of inherent existence, the appearance of forms, etc., that appear as inherent existence, is called emptiness like an illusion, as the previous scholars have said. Similarly, when engaging in practices such as circumambulation and recitation, one should first analyze with the reasoning that discerns the presence or absence of inherent existence, and negate inherent existence. Having settled on that certainty, engage in those practices, training to appear like an illusion, and perform them in that state. If you understand the key point of this, you will come to understand well how, by meditating on emptiness like the sky in meditative equipoise, the way emptiness like an illusion arises in post-meditation through its power. Regarding this, too, as previously explained, if you do not properly grasp the measure of what is to be negated, and analyze one and different, etc., with reasoning, and when you see harm to those, if you think that persons, etc., do not exist at all, or if you think that objects such as persons, etc., are like rabbit horns, etc., empty of all functions, then that is a great nihilistic view, and you should know that it is a deviation from the correct view. If that is the case, what would happen? In the commentary on the Four Hundred, it says, "Seeing dependent arising as it is, it becomes like a magic trick, but not like the son of a barren woman. If this analysis completely negates birth, and one wants to show that there is no birth of compounded phenomena, then at that time it will not be like an illusion, but it will be close to the son of a barren woman, etc. Because of the fear of becoming the fault of not having dependent arising, one does not conform to those, but one does conform to illusions, etc., that do not contradict it." So it is said. Therefore, inherent existence
