It should be practiced in this way. If one does not fully understand the decisive factors that can harm these two aspects of oneness and otherness, then even if one determines that persons are without inherent existence, it will only remain at the level of verbal commitment, and therefore one will not be able to obtain a pure view. If one wants to investigate whether a person truly exists, if the person truly exists, then one should investigate whether the person and the aggregates (Sanskrit: skandha) are one or different. If one considers them to be one, then the ultimate damaging factor is like fire and firewood, which can lead to the agent and the action becoming one. If one considers them to be one, then it must be negated by the valid cognition of worldly convention, but the tenets that are not shared by both the proponent and the opponent will not become damaging factors. Similarly, for the case of existing as other, if they exist as other, then they should appear separately like form and mind. But because they do not appear in that way, it reveals the damaging factor that cannot be accepted by this self-satisfied wisdom. The tenets that are not shared will not become damaging factors. Therefore, even when investigating the ultimate truth, the root to which all damaging factors ultimately trace back is that the conventional consciousness in the continuum of both the proponent and the opponent is not harmed. Therefore, it is precisely in this situation that (the scriptures say) "the world is without harm." Saying this is also, as previously explained, considering that the ultimate truth is not within the reach of valid cognition. But it is not that when investigating the ultimate truth, one does not consider the conventional consciousness that has not been harmed to be a damaging factor. If it were not so, then there would be no place to point out the damaging factors for each person's unshared views. Moreover, there are various situations of accepting and not accepting scriptures, and even among the accepted scriptures, there are differences between those that need interpretation and those that do not. If these also need to be proven by reasoning, then what other reasoning needs to be shown? For the opponent's commitment, if one admits this, then one must also admit that; if one does not admit this, then one should not admit that. Even if one shows it in this way, how can one be certain without the reason that proves its cause? Therefore, all the damaging factors and establishing factors ultimately trace back to the fact that the conventional consciousness of both the proponent and the opponent is not harmed. If one commits to a view that contradicts this, one will see that one's own experience has been harmed, and not going beyond this is the tenet of all Madhyamaka and Pramana. Even so, it is only the conventional consciousness itself.

Therefore, there is no fault of establishing things like 'without self-nature.' Although the fact that sound is artificial can be established by direct perception, impermanence does not necessarily need to be established by direct perception. In short, although the root of proof and refutation ultimately depends on direct perception, does the root to be established need to be established by direct perception? Third, through it, the remaining tenets will also be refuted, that is, if the self-nature is different, like yogurt in a wooden bowl. There are two aspects of the aggregates, the self, and the self relying on the aggregates: the support and the supported. Because self-nature is not other, there is no support and supported, just as it is said about a chariot. The Entering the Middle Way also says: 'There is no self in the aggregates, nor are the aggregates in the self. Why are these not present here? If there were a different nature, this would be a delusion. That different nature does not exist, therefore this is a delusion.' Therefore, the tenet of the self and the aggregates being combined is also the same as what is said about a chariot, and should be understood in that way. It says: 'The self is not desired to have form, why is the self not existent? Therefore, there is no meaning of combination. If it is other, it is like having a cow. If it is not other, it is like having form. The self is not other than form.' Among them, 'having a cow' is like Deva having a cow. 'Having form' is like Deva having form. So, is the mere collection of aggregates the self? If you think so, that is also unreasonable. Because the sutras say that the self is imputed based on the five aggregates, therefore, the basis of imputation should not become the imputed object. Regarding this, the Entering the Middle Way says: 'The sutras say it is established based on the aggregates, therefore the collection of aggregates is not the self.' Furthermore, if the mere collection of aggregates is the self, then the fault of the agent and the action becoming one will occur, as explained in the root text and commentary of the Entering the Middle Way. Because you consider each aggregate to be the object of the self's clinging, you must consider all five aggregates to be the object of clinging. If so, then the collection of aggregates must also become the object of clinging. The sutras say that the collection is the basis of imputation for the self, not the self, which clearly indicates that this must also be considered in the same way for the continuum of aggregates. If those are not the self, then, for example, when the spokes and axle of a chariot are combined, a special shape is obtained, and therefore it is established as a chariot. Form
