Objections were also stated to those who want to (admit self-nature). If this self also has self-nature, then these former and latter selves will either become one in their own essence, in which case they will become permanent. Or they will become different in their own essence, in which case they will become a nihilistic view, so the wise should not admit that the self has self-nature. The fault of wasting the karma that has been done is: if each moment of the self arises and ceases by its own characteristics, if it is desired that the later self enjoys the fruits of the karma done by the former self, then it will be refuted below. Here, the fruits of the karma previously accumulated will not be experienced, because the self of the doer of the karma is destroyed before experiencing the fruits, and there is no other self. That is, for the former and latter objects, since there is no establishment of otherness by their own essence, there is no later self that is different in essence from the former. If the former also does not experience the fruits, then there must be no experience of the fruits. The answer that it is the same continuum will also be refuted below, so it is not possible to avoid the waste of the karma that has been done. The fault of encountering karma that has not been done is: if the former self is destroyed, but the later self enjoys the fruits, thinking that there is no fault of wasting the karma that has been done, then in that case, for other individuals who have not accumulated even a little karma as the cause of experiencing the fruits of that karma, it will become that the fruits of the karma accumulated by other individuals are enjoyed, because the fruits accumulated by other individuals established by their own essence are enjoyed by other individuals who are different in essence from them. As it is said in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds: "Before nirvana, in the moment itself, Since there is no creator of arising and ceasing, Therefore, that is fruitless and becomes done by others, And others experiencing it will definitely be established." In the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds, three other faults were also mentioned, but it seems that they are only refuting the views of their own school, and here they want to refute them in common, so they are not listed. These two reasons are also stated in the twenty-seventh chapter of the Commentary on Valid Cognition: If this (thing) becomes other, then it will also arise without it. Similarly, it will change there, and it will arise there without dying. Annihilation and the waste of karmas, and the karmas done by others, experienced separately by others, and so on, will become such results. Thus it was said, the karma will be wasted, etc.

These two parts were written by Chandrakirti. If this becomes other, it means that the self of the previous life and the self of the present, if their own nature is different. If that is the case, because there is no dependence on the former, it will also arise without depending on the former, and just as the coarse cloth will not perish when the pot is made, when the later self arises, the former will not perish and exist, meaning that it will arise here without dying before. If the selves of the previous and later lives and their own nature are established as different, there is no fault of wasted karma and encountering what has not been done, because it is one continuum. If you say so, this is like the fact that their own nature is not established, so it needs to be established, and if their own nature is different, then one continuum is also unreasonable, just like Maitreya and Nearsidden. As it is said in the Entering the Middle Way: If there is a continuum in that, there is no fault, and the fault of the continuum has been explained before in the analysis. How was it analyzed before? It is said in the Entering the Middle Way: The dharmas that depend on Maitreya and Nearsidden, because they are of other nature, are not one continuum, and those that are established as different by their own characteristics, those should not belong to one continuum. It means that if they are established as different by their own characteristics, just like two different continuums, they cannot be established as one continuum. It is also said in the twenty-seventh chapter: If gods and humans are different, the continuum will not be reasonable. In short, if it is an other that is established by its own nature, it must be considered that it can endure analysis with the reasoning that analyzes the way of existence, and if it is analyzed in detail with such reasoning, there is not even a particle of things that can endure analysis, so if the karma accumulated by the former, whose own nature is different, is experienced by the latter, then it is completely the same as different continuums, and it cannot be distinguished. You should know that this is the case in all these situations. So, if the experiencer of the former time and the rememberer of the later time are not one, then according to one's own school, just like different continuums, it is unreasonable to remember what was experienced before and to enjoy the fruit of the karma accumulated before later, there is no fault, because here one continuum is not contradictory, because in other schools one continuum is not allowed. For example, filled with malt
