Then, due to unreal causes such as ignorance and seeds, all unreal results such as formations and sprouts must be considered to arise without being unreasonable. How do you think about this? As it is said: Relying on unreal causes, the form of the result is also of unreal nature, all of which should be known to arise. This example of the chariot also negates that merely the collection of eight particles such as form is considered as a vase, etc. Furthermore, it also prevents the establishment of vases, etc., based on the eight particles becoming substances, and the vases, etc., being considered as the special shapes of form, etc., that have become substances. Because form, etc., do not arise by nature, since they are without nature, it is unreasonable for them to become substances. As it is said in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds: By this, it is not reasonable to call the thought of a vase to those existing forms, etc., as they are. Since there is no arising, forms, etc., also do not exist, therefore those shapes are also unreasonable. If, like a chariot, a vase is not the shape of its own assembled parts, then the bulging belly, etc., should not be its characteristics, because those are shapes. If one thinks so, then whatever has a bulging belly and a long neck, etc., that is considered a vase, but the shape of the bulging belly, etc., is not considered a vase. Otherwise, it must also be considered the belly and the neck. To this, refuting the argument is as follows: Here, the realists say, according to the way of reasoning that examines the existence or non-existence of inherent existence, as described above, if the chariot is searched for in seven ways and not found, then it must be considered that the chariot does not exist. If that is the case, then the application of the term chariot in the world will become impossible, which is also unreasonable. Because it is seen that people say: Buy a chariot! Sell a chariot! etc. Therefore, chariots, etc., do exist. To this, as an answer, the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds commentary states two ways: that the fault exists only in the realists, and that one does not have the fault. The first is: The worldly terms such as Buy a chariot! etc., according to your view, must become non-existent, because you

Those who posit things as existing do so by analyzing them with the reasoning that seeks whether or not they have inherent existence. Because when that reasoning searches, the chariot is not found in any of those seven, and also because no other means of establishing things is accepted, therefore the chariot does not exist. When searching with the reasoning that seeks whether or not there is inherent existence, if it does not find the chariot, then the chariot does not exist. This debate of those who assert things as existing, now those who wish to proclaim the meaning of Madhyamaka, seem to consider it to be the tenet of the Madhyamikas. Therefore, for those who assert in this way, there will undoubtedly be the fault that all conventional designations cannot be established. The way to be without fault oneself is: It is neither in itself nor in the world, it cannot be established by the seven modes, but without analysis, just from the world itself, it is designated relying on its own limbs. They consider that this is what is being shown. Its meaning is: When searching with the reasoning that seeks whether or not there is inherent existence, the chariot is not found in any of those seven aspects, which is true in both truths. Since that reasoning did not find it in those seven, how can the chariot be refuted? Even so, the acceptance of the chariot is not established by the reasoning that examines whether or not there is inherent existence, but rather by abandoning the analysis of reasoning, it is established merely by worldly people, that is, by conventional knowledge that is self-satisfied and harmless. Therefore, its way of positing is that it is established as a dependently imputed existence that relies on its own limbs. If a yogi analyzes in this way, because the reasoning did not find the chariot, it does not have inherent existence established by its own entity, but if he thinks that its limbs do have inherent existence, then you are like searching for thread in the ashes of burnt wool, you are something to be laughed at. As it is said: If the chariot itself does not exist, then there will be no possessor of limbs, and there will be no limbs of it. Because there is no possessor of limbs, there are also no limbs. If it is said that that is not reasonable, because when the chariot is broken, the collection of limbs such as the wheel is seen. That is not so, only those who have seen the chariot before will think that those such as the wheel are of the chariot, others will not think so. At the time when the chariot is broken
