Just like that, if the very absence of inherent existence in words can refute the absence of inherent existence in things, then this analogy would also be valid. This is simply using the absence of inherent existence in words to negate the inherent existence of things. If the very absence of inherent existence in words negates the absence of inherent existence in things, then because the absence of inherent existence is negated, things would become endowed with inherent existence, and because they are endowed with inherent existence, they would not be emptiness. This is because it is stated very clearly. Therefore, as stated earlier in the root verses, "How could emptiness exist?" Immediately following that, it says, "The Buddhas have said that emptiness is definitely taught to relinquish all views. Those who hold a view of emptiness are said to be incurable." The phrase "holding a view of emptiness" here does not refer to viewing things as being empty of inherent existence. Rather, it refers to grasping emptiness, which is empty of inherent existence, as being truly existent or as a thing. As Buddhapālita says, "For those who are attached to the notion that things exist by their own nature, the statement of emptiness, which is dependent origination, is made because things are designated as things by the power of causes and conditions, but things do not exist by their own nature. When the inherent nature of things is thoroughly revealed as emptiness, that attachment can be reversed. However, for those who are attached to emptiness as a thing, there is no other way to reverse that attachment. For example, it is like saying 'There is nothing,' and then saying 'Give me that nothing.' How can one be made to grasp that nothingness?" Because he clearly explained this with an analogy. If this is not done, the analogy will not work. For example, when someone asks someone else for wealth, if they say there is no wealth, then it is not a fault to think that this person has no wealth. However, if one grasps the absence of wealth as wealth, then it is like not generating the certainty of the absence of wealth. When asking whether things have inherent existence or not, if one says there is no inherent existence, then if one thinks there is no inherent existence, the speaker will generate that.

If one thinks like that, what fault is there? However, if one grasps the very nature of things as being without inherent existence as inherent existence, that is a fault. According to your view, when saying "without wealth," if one thinks "without wealth," that must also be negated, which would mean that it is beautiful according to what we say. In the Clear Words also, it is said that clinging to emptiness as a real entity, therefore it is not negating emptiness, and there is no fault in merely observing emptiness. Therefore, in the Compendium it is said: "Even if one thinks of these aggregates as empty, the bodhisattva does not act with signs and does not believe in the unborn place." And in the Ratnavali it is also said: "The views of self and no-self, therefore, were refuted by the Great Sage." Furthermore, the sutras and treatises say that it is not permissible to view emptiness and selflessness, and these must also be understood as previously explained. If it is not like that, Shariputra asked Avalokiteshvara how to train if he wanted to practice the profound Prajnaparamita, and the answer was: "He should also truly and correctly observe those five aggregates as being empty of inherent existence." And in the Compendium it is also said: "Having fully understood that all phenomena are without inherent existence, this is the practice of the supreme Prajnaparamita." And in the Entering the Middle Way it is also said: "Therefore, by viewing self and what belongs to self as empty, that yogi will become completely liberated." And so on, there are very many, so it would contradict those. Therefore, the root of all decline is ignorance, which clings to inherent existence, and the only wisdom that uproots it in a way that directly contradicts this clinging is the wisdom that realizes no inherent existence or selflessness. If one refutes its clinging, then negating the view of that very truth must be admitted even unwillingly, as it is said in the commentary on the Four Hundred: "The door to peace is without a second." The complete cessation of attachment is the cause for attaining nirvana, and there is no other dharma that can cause such a complete cessation of attachment except for viewing no inherent existence. Therefore, this selflessness, characterized by no inherent existence, will become the only door to peace, and this alone is for entering the city of nirvana.

It is the unparalleled door. If there are the three doors of liberation, namely emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, even so, only the view of selflessness is the main one. Because one understands all dharmas as selfless, and completely cuts off attachment to all things, where would there be seeking or clinging to signs for any thing? Therefore, this selflessness is the only peaceful door, there is no second. Precisely because of this, in the Bodhisattva-saṃbhāra it is said: "Because of emptiness due to no self-nature, what use are signs and characteristics to emptiness? Because all signs are reversed, why would the wise make aspirations?" Thus it is said. Thus, by eliminating the contradiction between explaining the three doors of liberation and explaining the view of seeing self-nature as empty as the only door of liberation, through scripture and reasoning, it is proven that it is the door of liberation. Merely refuting self-nature, why bother refuting that object? Because such realization is the antidote to clinging to the signs of the two graspers, and for it, there is not even a trace of clinging to signs. If even such conceptualization is seen as a fault, and thus both good and bad conceptualizations are prevented, then it is clearly shown that one wants to establish the tenets of the Chinese monk Hwashang. Second, refuting the definition of the object to be refuted as having too small a scope: Some say that the object to be refuted is self-nature, and it has three characteristics: its essence is not produced by causes and conditions; its state does not change to another; its establishment does not depend on others. As it is said in the Root Verses on the Middle Way: "Self-nature is not reasonable to arise from causes and conditions. If it arises from causes and conditions, self-nature would become something made. How could self-nature be something made? Self-nature is uncreated and does not depend on others." Therefore, they say. In general, if one thinks that external and internal things, such as sprouts, are established with such a self-nature, then the Madhyamikas must refute it. But here, the definition of the object to be refuted is: if one refutes something, then the Madhyamika view of understanding all dharmas as without self-nature arises in the continuum, then this is the definition of the root of the object to be refuted.
