Pages 801 to 900 Pages 801 to 900 For those who wish to establish the ultimate truth, teachers Buddhapalita and Chandrakirti consider that if there is an entity established by its own nature, then it is truly established. However, teachers like Sthiramati and others believe that it is not enough to establish the ultimate truth by that alone. Furthermore, the Mind-Only school argues that individual atoms are not objects of sense consciousness because they are invisible; nor are aggregates of many atoms objects of sense consciousness because they are not real substances, like seeing two moons. In response to this, the Blaze of Reasoning states, "If you prove that a single, unaggregated atom is not an object of the senses, you are proving what is already established." After saying that, in the subsequent response, it also says that if one assumes that similar atoms are aggregated and then says that this is not a cause because it is not a real substance, then the reason itself is not established. Because, in this way, the nature of similar atoms, through the combination of other different atoms applying help to it, it becomes a component of the nature of the object, thereby giving rise to wisdom that appears as the aggregation of atoms. Just as from the aggregation of similar atoms, we also consider pots and so on to be real substances, just like atoms. Because atoms are also the nature of the aggregation of eight real substances, and just as one wants to manifest it as a real substance, the aggregated nature of pots and so on are also real substances, and the individual atom is not established. Therefore, each of the aggregated atoms is a cause of sense consciousness, and it is also considered to be a real substance, and it is also considered that atoms are ultimate. Therefore, indivisible atoms are considered to be the objective condition. Therefore, sense consciousness is not deluded by the previously mentioned causes of internal and external confusion, and it is considered to be non-deluded. And in conventional terms, it is considered to be the objective condition that is in accordance with the Sautrantika school. The Commentary on Entering the Middle Way states: Some people say that what the Sautrantika school says is the ultimate truth is what the Madhyamika school considers to be the conventional truth. Whoever says such things should know that it is entirely because they do not understand the suchness of the Madhyamika treatises.

Furthermore, those who think that what the Vaibhashikas say is ultimately true is what the Madhyamikas say is conventionally true, they have not fully understood the truth of the scriptures. For, transcendental dharmas should not be the same as worldly dharmas. Scholars should be sure that this system is unique. Thus it is said. Therefore, the tenets of those schools, such as the apprehension of indivisibility, which are established by their unique tenets, are not accepted even in name. In the commentary on the Four Hundred, it is also said: It is not appropriate for one's own school to accept the subtle particles of matter, as do the Vaibhashikas. Thus, it is said that indivisible particles are not accepted. What the two schools consider to be ultimately true, the Madhyamikas do not accept as conventionally true, but this is directed at things like indivisibility. It is not shown that whatever the two schools consider to be true, the Madhyamikas do not accept as conventionally true, just as they consider forms and sounds to be true, but the Madhyamikas consider them to be conventionally true. In the commentary on the Four Hundred, it is said: In the case of the aggregation of subtle particles of the senses, it is denied that each one is considered to be the cause of sense consciousness. Since the senses are not established as subtle particles, as the same as them, or as different from them, what is established in dependence on them is the basis of consciousness. Similarly, objects are also said to be objects of sense consciousness, which are established in dependence on what exists by imputation. Since consciousnesses are considered to be manifestly imputed and objects are considered to be manifestly characterized, it seems that this teacher and the teacher Legdenjye are similar in their view of external objects, but the way in which the senses and objects are established is different. Previously, when refuting that sense consciousness is valid in its own characteristics, it was said: Because things that exist in a different way appear in a different way. Thus it is said. Therefore, in sense consciousness, forms, sounds, etc. appear to be established by their own characteristics, but since the characteristics as they appear do not exist even in name, this teacher considers these to be mistaken even in name. Even so, there is no reason why sense consciousnesses should not be valid in name for establishing objects such as forms and sounds, because of the reason for establishing them as mistaken.
