ga stong nyid shes de bag yod yin. The first line means, 'Whoever understands emptiness is cautious.' Having said, 'That which arises from conditions is unborn,' the second line shows the way of being unborn: 'In that, there is no nature of arising.' This is adding a qualification to the object to be refuted, that is, unborn by nature. Some people do not understand this, and upon hearing these words, say that merely being born depends on being unborn, and merely not depending on being unborn. Such people only speak contradictions and seem to consider their views to be high. In the Lankavatara Sutra quoted in the Prasannapadā, it is also said: 'Great Wisdom, considering the unborn by nature, I have said that all dharmas are unborn.' It is said very clearly. Regarding whether or not to add the qualification of ultimate truth to the negation of arising, etc., the answer has already been given in essence. However, a specific answer to that will be given below. Those refutations, all those refutations, show that for the absence of inherent existence, one cannot refute the way of establishing cause and effect, etc. In general, the ultimate result of seemingly valid refutations is that the arguments by which one refutes others are also applied without reservation to the refuter. Therefore, your statements are the ultimate result of seemingly valid refutations. Just as one examines whether or not harm is caused by reasoning, etc., and thereby prevents the views of others, conversely, the reasoning that refutes in that way must also be refuted. If you think that because you admit that form, etc., exists, these arguments apply, but we do not have our own tenets, so these arguments do not apply, then this does not eliminate those faults, which will be explained when determining the Prāsaṅgika and Svātantrika. Fourth, it is shown that preventing the four possibilities of things existing or not existing, etc., cannot be a harmful factor. In the Madhyamaka treatises, all four possibilities of things or nature existing, not existing, both, and neither have been prevented. Since there is no dharma that is not included in them, if one thinks that everything can be prevented by reasoning, then, as stated before, for things, of the two things, a thing that is established by its own entity, no matter which of the two truths it is thought to exist in, also...
