Although objects that exist in a way that is not established can be refuted by blocking them, objects that are apprehended as impermanent, etc., cannot be refuted by reasoning because they exist in name. Just as the four constants, etc., that are established in reality or by their own nature are impossible, so too are the four impermanent, etc., that are established in these two ways impossible. Therefore, considering that there is no distinction between being inverted and not inverted in holding that these eight exist only in relation to that. It is said that whatever is used for form, permanence, impermanence, happiness, suffering, self, existence, or non-existence is used for signs. If the ignorance that imputes self-nature to things is refuted by reasoning, and the meanings of conventions are not blocked, then these two are contradictory. As it says in the "Entering the Middle Way": "Ignorance obscures self-nature, therefore it is conventional truth. That which is fabricated by it appears to be true, that is called conventional truth, as the Buddha said." Because form, sound, etc., are established as conventional truths under the influence of ignorance. If you say that, there is no fault. Because the truth that establishes form, sound, etc., as conventional truths is a truth that is established by thought, and that thought must also be a thought that grasps truth, so it is true in the face of ignorance that imputes self-nature. Therefore, for the two Arhats who have abandoned the ignorance of affliction, and for the Bodhisattvas above the eighth ground, these appearances are of a fabricated nature, but not true, because they do not have the appearance of being true. Therefore, the reason why it is said to be merely conventional for those who do not have true grasping is that. Therefore, although form, sound, etc., are true in the face of ignorance, form, sound, etc., are not established by ignorance. For example, in the face of the mistaken consciousness of grasping a rope as a snake, the rope is a snake, but the mistaken consciousness does not truly establish the rope. The wisdom that truly establishes form, sound, etc., is the six consciousnesses of the eye, etc., which are not harmful. Therefore, the meaning established by these exists in name, so it cannot be blocked by reasoning. However, it does not exist in convention as it is grasped by ignorance, because this is the imputation of self-nature to things that are established by their own nature, and such a nature does not exist even in name. Therefore, reasoning can also block in name.

If these are not refuted by reasoning, then in conventional terms, things will not be established as being like illusions. Because of the ignorance that imputes to this imputed nature, imputing distinctions such as loveliness and unloveliness, thereby giving rise to desire and hatred, etc., therefore, the way these are grasped can also be refuted by reasoning. As it says in the commentary on the Four Hundred: "Desire and so forth also, because of ignorance, apply distinctions such as loveliness and unloveliness only to the nature of things that are imputed by ignorance. Therefore, they are no different from ignorance, and also depend on ignorance, because ignorance is the most important." Thus it is said. Therefore, although these afflictions are innate afflictions that have arisen from beginningless time, since the way they are grasped can be refuted by reasoning, therefore, the objects they grasp do not exist even in conventional terms. Therefore, with respect to the objects of innate minds, there are two possibilities: that reasoning can refute them or that it cannot. For the conventional valid cognitions that discriminate these forms, sounds, etc., the objects of these innate valid cognitions exist in conventional terms, so they are not refuted by reasoning. In this way, according to the views of Acharya Śāntarakṣita and Acharya Candrakīrti, even in conventional terms, the self-nature that is established by its own entity is refuted. Therefore, it seems very difficult to discriminate conventional phenomena, and if one does not know how to establish these well without harm, one will not be able to find a good certainty in the way of practice. Therefore, it seems that most will turn into views of denigration, so those who possess intelligence should become skilled in the way this school establishes the conventional. Here, because of the concern that there would be too many words, I have not elaborated further than that. Third, to show that refuting by examining whether the four alternatives of arising are valid or not is not able to refute: If arising is refuted by refuting arising from self, other, both, and without a cause, then the four alternatives of arising do not exist even in conventional terms according to this school's view, so there is no need to add distinctions to refuting arising. If it is not refuted, then by refuting the four alternatives of arising, the arising of ultimate truth will also not be refuted. If someone says this, the former is not accepted, so the latter should be answered: If you accept the arising of ultimate truth, then you must accept that it can withstand the analysis of reasoning that analyzes it. At that time, the reason
