Although it is so, since conventional valid cognition harms the meaning it grasps, these do not exist even in convention. The reason why reasoning that properly examines the existence or non-existence of inherent existence does not cause harm is that the things established as conventions must be established by conventional valid cognition. However, the wisdom of reasoning that properly examines the existence or non-existence of inherent existence must necessarily not cause harm in any way. If reasoning establishes existence, then it becomes existence established by its own nature, thus contradicting the meaning of convention. Therefore, holding the non-harming by reasoning and the establishment by it as one, the idea that in convention, happiness and suffering arise from virtue and non-virtue, and that happiness and suffering arise from Ishvara and the chief, if one is established, both are established together, and if one is not established, both are not established together, is a baseless wrong conception. Although the creation of happiness and suffering by Ishvara and the chief, and the creation of happiness and suffering by virtue and non-virtue, are equally unestablished by reasoning that properly examines the existence or non-existence of inherent existence, the harm or non-harm caused by reasoning is not the same in any way. In this regard, the common view of the proponents of entities in their own and other schools is that when they establish things like the imputed partless grasping, the self, the chief, and Ishvara, they examine with reasoning whether or not they are established by their own nature. Then, they think that they can find those meanings through such reasoning and establish them based on that. Therefore, for such things, it is necessary to admit other examinations by reasoning that examines the existence or non-existence of inherent existence, because they think that these meanings can be examined by reasoning. When examined in this way, since they cannot withstand the burden of immaculate reasoning, if reasoning does not find them, they will be negated, because if they exist, they must be found by these reasonings. Forms, sounds, and so on, are merely established as they appear to the conventional consciousnesses that are free from the harm of internal and external causes of error. For these, is it merely a convention, or is it established in this way in terms of the reality of the meaning? Examining in this way, and thinking that through such examination one can find the inherent existence established by its own nature, is not an accepted view. Therefore, for these things, no examination is made by reasoning that distinguishes the existence or non-existence of inherent existence.

No, because those things are not desired to be examined by reason. For example, when it is said, "This is a sheep," it is not permissible to examine whether it is a horse or an ox, just like that. Things that have been known in the world since beginningless time, but are not present even in conventional terms because they are harmed by reason, are: due to ignorance, the imputation of self-nature to things, and due to worldly views, the clinging to the self and mine as being established by their own nature, and the objects of clinging to yesterday's mountain as today's mountain, etc. Therefore, the Madhyamikas do not consider everything that is known in the world to be conventional. Some say that the reasons why form, sound, etc., and what is posited by the heretics, are not the same in terms of existence and non-existence in conventional terms are that the former is known to all the world, and the latter is known only to the proponents of philosophical systems. To say this is unwise, otherwise, in conventional terms, there must not be things like illusions such as form, etc., and there must be things established by their own nature, etc., and there would be many faults. In the commentary on the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning, it is also said: "Inverted is that which apprehends happiness and so forth as such, because even in conventional truth, that thing does not exist in that way. Not inverted is that which apprehends suffering and so forth as such, because that thing exists in that way in conventional truth." Therefore, although the four, such as permanence, are commonly known in the world, clinging to them is said to be inverted in conventional truth, and although the four, such as impermanence, are not commonly known in the world, clinging to them is said to be not inverted. Therefore, the conceptual thought that apprehends the aggregates as impermanent, etc., although it is mistaken in the object of appearance, there is no harm to the valid cognizer in the manner of definite apprehension, so it is called not inverted or not mistaken. And the sense consciousnesses, etc., are mistaken in the object of appearance, and there is no other part that is not mistaken, so they are not called not mistaken. Although the sense consciousnesses, etc., are similarly mistaken in appearance, from the perspective of worldly people, due to the difference between the existence and non-existence of meanings that are in accordance with appearance, the sense consciousnesses that perceive images, etc., are false conventional truths, and the harmless sense consciousnesses other than that are true conventional truths. The apprehension of the conceptual thought that apprehends the aggregates as permanent, etc.
