For example, the sprout that is desired to arise from itself cannot arise from itself, because it exists in its own nature. Like this, stating the subject of dharma and reason, etc., that are known to others, thereby refuting the opponent. Although it is said that "it cannot arise from itself," it is only refuting the self-arising of others, and it is not proving that it cannot arise from itself, so there is no thesis. The proof being the same as what is to be proven means that whatever examples and reasons are put forward by the opponent in order to establish their own view, all become unestablished as before. The balance of reasons being the same means "if you accept this, then accept that," balancing in a way that there is no difference in reasons. So, do you want to refute the opponent's acceptance or not? If you do, then that itself is a thesis, so there will be a self-sustaining reason to establish it. If you don't, then it is unreasonable to state the reasoning that refutes the acceptance of others. If asked in this way, when examining the ultimate truth, if you want a proposition such as "no self-nature" or "no arising," then you must accept the self-sustaining thesis and reason, but since you do not want these, there is no fault. If merely having the intention means having a thesis, then everything will become having a thesis, it is explained. This refers to not having a reason to establish one's own view, but only refuting the view of others, and although there is intention, there is no thesis, and not having one's own view is also only when examining the ultimate truth, not establishing a thesis of no self-nature, etc., but not wanting any acceptance at all. Therefore, when examining the ultimate truth, if one accepts the proposition of no self-nature and establishes it as one's own system, that is a Svatantrika; if one does not accept it in that way, but only refutes the views of others, it appears to be a Prasangika. Now, those who want to be Madhyamaka Prasangikas do not have any acceptance based on either the ultimate truth or the conventional truth in their own system even in the conventional. If there is such a thesis, then one must also want the examples and reasons to establish it, and in that way one will become a Svatantrika. Therefore, Prasangikas do not have any of their own systems. As it says in the Vigrahavyavartani: "If I have any thesis, then I have that fault, since I have no thesis, therefore I am faultless. If in direct perception, etc."

If some things are designated by meaning, then, if it is to be established or refuted, since it does not exist, I have no argument. Thus it is said. In the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning, it is also said: Those who possess great self-nature, for them there is no impartial dispute. For those who have no partiality, then where is the other side for them? Thus it is said. In the Four Hundred Stanzas, it is also said: For existence, non-existence, and existence and non-existence, for which there is no partiality, then, even if the time is long, it is not possible to speak of argument. Thus it is said, because it is proclaimed that the Madhyamaka does not have a tenet and a vow. In the Clear Words, it is said: If one is a Madhyamaka, then it is not appropriate to infer according to one's own continuum, because there is no acceptance of another's position. Thus it is said. And also, the meaning of refuting the consequence is related to the other party itself, we are not, because we do not have a vow ourselves. Thus it is said. In the Entrance to the Middle Way, it is also said: Does the refuter refute the refutable without encountering it, or does the refuter refute after encountering it? Thus it is said, where is this fault? It will definitely be for those who have a position, for the position of no-self, this position does not exist, therefore it is not possible to have a refutation. Thus it is said, because it is proclaimed that one does not have a position, therefore faults do not enter. Therefore, all these distinctions are merely distinctions made by the Madhyamaka from the perspective of others. In the Entrance to the Middle Way, it is said: Just as you accept other-powered reality, I have not accepted conventional truth either. For the sake of the result, although these do not exist, I say they exist, I speak from the perspective of the world. Thus it is said. In the Refutation of Disputes, it is also said: Since there is nothing to be refuted, I do not negate anything. Therefore, saying that it is negated, that is an accusation that you have made. Thus it is said, because it is proclaimed that there is no negation of the other side either. Thus it is said. Some Tibetan scholars who followed the Madhyamaka teacher Chandrakirti of the past, thus refuted well the tenets that the Madhyamaka does not have its own position and the valid cognitions that establish them. Their own tenet is: the object to be measured by its own nature analyzed by reason and the things that acknowledge the distinctions of valid cognition, rejecting both the direct perception and inference of the valid cognition that enters by the power of things, the valid cognition and the object to be measured of the worldly convention that is not analyzed in terminology.
