If one wishes to debate, is the reason on which the debate is based established through valid cognition, or is it not established? Regarding this, if it is according to the first case, then it is established for both parties, so how can it be said to be admitted by others? If it is according to the second case, then it should not be admitted by others at all, so how can it be said to be admitted by others? The answer to this is: whatever is established through valid cognition is established for both parties. I don't quite understand the meaning of this statement, because when the debater presents the argument, although the reason he presents is established through valid cognition, how does he know that this reason is also established through valid cognition for others? Because the differences in others' minds are not the objects of direct perception and inference. How does one know that it is established through valid cognition for oneself? Because due to the cause of delusion, one may have been deceived for a long time. Therefore, both the debater and the refuter acknowledge the nature of things by the power of the valid cognition that they both acknowledge. Therefore, it is said that one refutes the views of others through the way of others' admission. The debater does not know whether the reason is established through valid cognition for the refuter, because the refuter's idea is that the debater's two valid cognitions cannot be established. One does not know whether the reason is established through valid cognition for oneself either, because even if one determines that it is established through valid cognition, one may still be deceived. Therefore, since neither party has a reason established through valid cognition, one ultimately has to rely on the valid cognition that they both acknowledge, so even if it is not established through valid cognition, it is still appropriate to refute through the way of admission. This is the explanation. Furthermore, regarding the aspect of the autonomous reason, if the reason and the object to be proven are universally established through valid cognition, then the autonomous consequence will become the establisher. However, universal establishment is not established, because the valid cognition that establishes universal establishment is either direct perception or inference. First of all, direct perception cannot establish universal establishment, because among the crowd, through direct perception and non-perception, one can understand the relationship of "if this exists, then that exists, and if this does not exist, then that does not exist" between fire and smoke, but not in all places. Inference cannot establish it either, because it also has a definite place. Because the object of inference is not all places.

Therefore, it is only where the sign related to what is to be proven exists that knowledge such as impermanence arises. Not in all times and places. Therefore, universality is established through worldly commitment, not through valid cognition. So how is it unreasonable to refute the other's position with a reductio ad absurdum argument? If the pervasion of smoke being present with fire and something made being pervaded by impermanence is proven by valid cognition, then the autonomous syllogism would be reasonable, but it is not established. If it were established by valid cognition, then in all times and places, smoke and something made would have to be pervaded by fire and impermanence. However, since the direct perception and inference that prove pervasion are established only in the kitchen and on top of a pot, it is limited. Therefore, it is said that pervasion must also be established by mere acceptance. This seems to indicate that if one uses a sign whose three aspects are established by valid cognition, it is an autonomous syllogism, and if one uses only the ultimate limit of the three aspects being accepted, it is a consequence. The translator students of that Pandit also said this: Madhyamikas have no commitment of their own other than refuting the views of others. Since the subject and so forth are not established as common to both, the autonomous syllogism is not reasonable. The result of analyzing with reasoning is also just abandoning the tenets of others. Since there is no self-assertion other than that, the autonomous syllogism should not be stated in any way. Therefore, it is only a consequence. Even in that, the consequence of proof is only the fallacy of refutation because it is the ultimate limit of the autonomous system. This also is not a valid cognition because the sign and the pervasion are both fallacies of acceptance or the ultimate limit of acceptance. Relying on this, cutting off the acceptance or proliferation of others is done in four ways. Among them, the consequence of stating a contradiction is: the opponent believes that birth is meaningful and has contact, and wants self-generation. If self-generation occurs, then what exists is born, so birth becomes meaningless and without contact, so it is not reasonable to want meaningful and contact. If you want that, then you should not want self-generation. Thus, when a contradiction is stated, the other party realizes it and has only the result of abandoning the tenets. Other famous followers
