If it is for the sake of generating (wisdom), then what kind of view should be used to refute with reason? In general, although there are countless kinds of conceptualizations that cling to what is to be refuted, one should properly recognize what the inverted conceptualization is that is the root of all faults, and then refute its object of clinging, because if it is refuted, all faults will be eliminated. Moreover, the antidotes to other afflictions such as desire that are spoken of are only partial antidotes, while the antidote to ignorance that is spoken of will become the antidote to all. Therefore, ignorance is the basis of all faults. The Clear Words says: The sutra sections of the Buddhas, etc., the nine kinds of Dharma taught relying on the two truths, which is the vast one in the behavior of worldly beings, is truly proclaimed here? There, it is said to eliminate desire, but hatred will not be exhausted by it; it is said to eliminate hatred, but desire will not be exhausted by it; it is said to eliminate pride, etc., but other stains will not be destroyed by it. Therefore, these are not the most universal, these sayings and these are not the most important. What is said to eliminate delusion can destroy all afflictions. The Buddhas say that all afflictions truly depend on delusion. So, what is delusion like? The mind that imputes self-nature, thinking that inner and outer phenomena are established by their own characteristics, is ignorance here. The Commentary on the Four Hundred says: Consciousness especially imputes the own nature of things, due to the ignorance of afflictions, it has attachment to things, and becomes the seed for entering samsara, cutting it off in all aspects, samsara will cease, therefore it is explained. The seed of existence is consciousness, the objects are its field of activity, if one sees the objects as selfless, the seed of existence will cease. As said before, seeing the objects as without self-nature, the cause of attachment—consciousness, becomes the seed of existence, cutting it off in all aspects, the Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas who have obtained forbearance of non-arising dharmas,
