As previously stated when discussing the two, it is either existent by its own nature or completely non-existent. Now, regarding the emptiness of inherent existence, which is determined to be without even a particle of inherent existence in phenomena, these phenomena such as form exist as qualities upon a basis of characteristics, so it is not contradictory for both to exist within the scope of a single mind, and since the dualistic appearance is not reversed, emptiness becomes the conventional truth. When the view that realizes the absence of inherent existence becomes familiar, and when that meaning is directly realized, all illusions of appearing as inherent existence despite the absence of inherent existence cease. Therefore, the wisdom that directly realizes the nature of reality does not perceive phenomena such as form. Since such a nature of reality and phenomena do not exist before that mind, the establishment of those two as the nature of reality and phenomena must be established from the perspective of another conventional mind. Thus, the ultimate truth is merely the complete cessation of all elaborations of inherent existence, and the complete reversal of all elaborations of illusion that appear as such despite the absence of inherent existence. Even if that is acknowledged, why is it necessary to acknowledge inherent existence established by its own nature? The Clear Words also states: "The appearance of things, perceived through the dimness of ignorance, is a way of not seeing. The nature of what is superior, separated from the dimness of ignorance, becomes the object of those who are separated from it. That very nature is thus established as the nature of those things." It also states: "That which has become the nature of things, the unborn, is also merely the absence of things because it is nothing at all. Because it has no nature, it does not exist as the nature of things." Some believe that the ultimate truth is not merely the severance of elaborations such as the two selves to be refuted, but that it appears in the realm of unerring minds that realize reality, in a way that is autonomously established, like blue and yellow, and that certainty of its existence is the view that realizes the profound meaning. They believe that realizing the absence of inherent existence in the internal and external phenomena that sentient beings cling to as the two selves is a deviation from the correct view.

Therefore, this has become an outsider. Because they want to eliminate the root of binding all sentient beings to samsara—self-grasping, but because they realize that the basis grasped by self-grasping is without inherent existence, they cannot eliminate self-grasping. Because they want to eliminate self-grasping by realizing that other dharmas unrelated to self-grasping are truly existent. This is like, for example, in the east, there is clearly no snake, but one clings to the belief that there is a snake, and thus fears and suffers. To eliminate this suffering, if one believes that there is not even a little bit of a snake in the east, then the snake-grasping will not be eliminated. If one says, cling to the belief that there is a tree in the west, and this will eliminate the snake-grasping and suffering, there is no difference whatsoever. Therefore, those who want to obtain benefit should stay far away from this kind of practice, and rely on the treatises of the noble Nagarjuna and his son, which clearly explain the means of refuting the ignorance-grasping that is the root of all downfalls that bind one to samsara, and the collection of reasoning that deeply understands its meaning, which cannot be distorted, and thus cross over the ocean of existence. These preventions of wrong conceptions about what is to be refuted are extremely important for finding the view of Madhyamaka and cutting off wrong paths, so they are explained in detail. Third, identifying the object of negation according to one's own system, in three parts: identifying the object of negation in its actual meaning, and whether or not it applies to other objects of negation, and whether or not to apply the distinction of ultimate truth to the object of negation. First: In general, there are two types of objects of negation: objects of negation of the path and objects of negation of reasoning. Among these, the first, in the Madhyantavibhāga (Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes), it says: "The obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge, thus are shown the two obscurations, all obscurations are in this, when this is exhausted, it is said to be liberation." As it is said, there are two types: the obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge. This is the object of negation that exists in the knowable, because without this, all sentient beings would effortlessly attain liberation. The object of negation of reasoning is, in the Vigrahavyāvartanī (Refutation of Objections), it says: "Or some people think of an emanation, a woman as a real woman, the wrong conception arising from the emanation, this can refute such a one." In its auto-commentary, it says: Or
