If someone says and prevents saying that the emptiness of no-self is not the supreme emptiness, then the one who abandons the Dharma by abandoning Prajñāpāramitā will go to the lower realms. Even if one believes in no-self, if one thinks what is the use of no-self, thereby thinking that all dharmas are not permanent, one will fall into the abyss of nihilistic views. Just as it is said in the commentary "Clear Words": "If one wrongly views emptiness, those with little wisdom will be destroyed." If someone thinks that everything is empty, that everything is non-existent, then this will become a wrong view. As it is said: "If one wrongly grasps this Dharma, the unwise will also perish. Those who view non-existence in this way will sink into impurity." If one does not want to deny everything, then how can these things become emptiness when they are determined as objects? Therefore, the meaning of no-self is not the meaning of emptiness. This will inevitably lead to abandoning emptiness, and after abandoning it, due to the lack of Dharma, one will surely fall into the lower realms due to karma. As it is said in the "Garland of Jewels": "Furthermore, if one wrongly holds this view, the foolish and arrogant, becoming evil by abandoning, will go to Avīci hell." Because it is said so. If someone thinks that if we previously acknowledged things and later think that they do not exist, this will become a nihilistic view, but we do not think that they exist from the beginning, then what will become the annihilation of nihilistic views? "Previously existed, now does not exist," therefore it will fall into the state of annihilation. Such people will be considered to have nihilistic views. Moreover, it is also said in "Clear Words": "Yogis, merely because they do not understand conventional truth, think that arising is without self-nature, thereby thinking that its emptiness is the characteristic of ultimate truth, this will not fall into two extremes. If it does not exist now, then what existed at that time?" Therefore, having not previously determined the self-nature of things, one will not later think that it is non-existent. If one thinks like this, it is unreasonable. If nihilistic views require the previously acknowledged thing to be annihilated, then the worldly Lokāyata will also acknowledge past and future lives and karma.

Therefore, it is not said that what was previously promised is later denied. Because it is not believed that those exist from the beginning, it would lead to the view of annihilation. Therefore, the saying, "What existed before does not exist now," would lead to annihilation. What is said here is that for those who assert that things have an inherent nature established by themselves, the views of permanence and annihilation inevitably arise. If it is believed that that nature does not change at any time, then it becomes a view of permanence. If it is believed that what existed before is destroyed later, then it becomes a view of annihilation. Therefore, when showing that there is no view of annihilation that clings to the nature that existed before being destroyed later, not admitting that things have an inherent nature established by themselves, even as small as a particle, is what becomes the reason. But not all views of annihilation are eliminated by this. Other ways that are different from the view of annihilation that believes there is no karma and result are explained in detail in the Clear Words. For example, the view of annihilation is to believe that there is no karma and result and no other world, while the Madhyamikas believe that those are without inherent nature, so there is a difference in vows. The Madhyamikas say that karma and result, etc., are without inherent nature because they are interdependent, while the nihilists do not believe that karma and result, etc., are interdependent, so they do not use that as a reason. Instead, they say that there is nothing because they have not seen the current sentient beings coming here from the previous world and going from here to the next, so there is a big difference in the reasons. As the Clear Words says: Here some argue that the Madhyamikas are no different from the nihilists, because they say that good and bad karma, the agent, the fruit, and all the worlds are empty of inherent nature. The nihilists also say that those do not exist, therefore, the Madhyamikas are no different from the nihilists. But that is not the case, the Madhyamikas are those who speak of dependent arising, and because it is dependent arising, they say that this world and the other world, etc., are all without inherent nature. The nihilists do not say that the other world, etc., are things in the way of emptiness of inherent nature because they are dependently arisen
