If one wonders, how can it be established that everything has passed away? Those who assert that all things are empty in their essence will explain it by the reason of arising from causes and conditions, and will explain it thus: If that is the case, then dependent origination is reasonable. If that is reasonable, then suffering is also reasonable. Because suffering must be established on the basis of arising from causes and conditions, and not on the basis of not arising from causes and conditions. If there is the truth of suffering, then the origin from which it arises—the truth of origin, and the cessation of that suffering—the truth of cessation, and the path that leads to it—the truth of the path, are also reasonable, therefore there are the four noble truths. If there are the four noble truths, then understanding, abandoning, realizing them, and cultivating the path are reasonable. If these exist, then the Three Jewels and everything else are all reasonable. Just as it is said in the Clear Words: For whom this emptiness, where all things are empty in their essence, is reasonable, then all those things that are said are all reasonable. How is it reasonable? Because we proclaim that dependent origination is emptiness. Therefore, for whom emptiness is reasonable, dependent origination is reasonable. For whom dependent origination is reasonable, the four noble truths are reasonable. Why? Because dependent origination itself is suffering, and not non-dependent origination. Therefore, it is empty because it has no self-nature. If there is suffering, then the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path leading to the cessation of suffering are also reasonable. Therefore, completely understanding suffering, abandoning the origin, realizing cessation, and cultivating the path are also reasonable. If there is complete understanding of the noble truths such as suffering, then the fruits are reasonable. If there are fruits, then those who abide in the fruits are reasonable. If there are those who abide in the fruits, then those who have entered the stream are reasonable. If there are those who abide in the fruits and those who have entered the stream, then the Sangha is reasonable. If there are the noble truths, then the sacred Dharma is also reasonable. If there are the sacred Dharma and the Sangha, then the Buddha is also reasonable. Therefore, the Three Jewels are also reasonable. Worldly and transmundane

All past objects, and all special cognitions, as well as Dharma and non-Dharma, and their results, and all worldly terms, are all possible. Therefore, for whom emptiness is possible, then everything is possible. For whom emptiness is not possible, then because there is no dependent arising, everything is impossible. Thus it is said. Possible and impossible should be understood as their existence and non-existence. In the reply to the previously cited debate, the teacher also clearly explained the reply that actions are reasonable without inherent existence. In the "Refutation of Debate" it says: Whatever things arise dependently, That is called emptiness, Whatever arises dependently, That is said to be without inherent nature. Moreover, in its auto-commentary, it also says: You have not understood the meaning of the emptiness of things, because your words are without inherent nature, therefore it is unreasonable to say that preventing the inherent nature of things is to seek fault. Here, whatever things arise dependently, that is emptiness. Why? Because it is without inherent nature. Whatever things arise dependently, those are not with inherent nature, because they are without inherent nature. Why? Because it is dependent on causes and conditions. If things existed by inherent nature, then they should exist even without causes and conditions. But that is not the case, therefore it is without inherent nature, therefore it is called emptiness. Similarly, my words are also dependently arising, therefore they are without inherent nature. Because it is without inherent nature, it is reasonable to say that it is emptiness. Just as pots and cloths and so on are dependently arising, therefore their inherent nature is empty, but they are able to hold and obtain honey, water, and milk, and are able to protect against cold, wind, and sunlight, so too my words are dependently arising, therefore they are without inherent nature, but they are able to well prove that things are without inherent nature. Therefore, your words
