The complete cessation of clinging to self and what belongs to self is the suchness here. Entering into suchness is: All afflictions and faults arise from the view of the aggregates; this is seen by the wise. I am understood to be the object of this, and the yogi eliminates the self. And so on, it should be sought in the "Entering the Middle Way." It is also said: Here, the yogi who wishes to enter suchness and wishes to completely abandon all afflictions and faults, contemplates in this way: What is the root of this samsara? When contemplating in this way, one sees that samsara has its root in the view of the aggregates; and one sees that the self is the object of the view of the aggregates; not seeing the self, one abandons the view of the aggregates, and abandoning it, one sees that all afflictions and faults cease. Therefore, one first contemplates what is the object of clinging to self, called "self." Thus it is said. Although many reasons for negating the inherent nature of countless individual phenomena have been proclaimed, when a yogi enters into meditation, in short, one ascertains that self and what belongs to self are without inherent nature, and then meditates. This is the meaning of the eighteenth chapter of the "Root Wisdom," which was composed by the teacher Chandrakirti based on the teachings of the teacher Buddhapalita. Those who explain the selflessness of persons in the "Entering the Middle Way" are also elaborating on the eighteenth chapter. If this is not explaining the way to enter suchness in the Great Vehicle, then merely exhausting the clinging to self and what belongs to self should not be the suchness to be attained, and merely ascertaining that self and what belongs to self are without inherent nature does not ascertain the selflessness of phenomena. Therefore, it should not be the path to enter suchness. If you think so, there is no fault. The complete exhaustion of clinging to self and what belongs to self, in which the afflictions are completely abandoned in such a way that they do not arise again, is also found in the Lesser Vehicle. However, because all the characteristics of the proliferation of external and internal phenomena are abandoned without ever being apprehended, this is the Dharmakaya. When one realizes that the self is without inherent nature, the aggregates that are its parts

For the aggregates, etc., also, the clinging to them as having inherent existence will be reversed, just as when a chariot is burned, its parts such as the wheels are also burned. Moreover, the *Prasannapadā* states: "Those who, relying on dependent origination, are endowed with the pervertedness of ignorance, analyze, desiring liberation, whether these five aggregates, which are the basis for the manifest clinging to self, are something whose characteristic is the aggregates, or whether they are something whose characteristic is not the aggregates. Because those who desire liberation do not find it when analyzing in all ways, therefore, for them: 'If self itself does not exist, how can there be what belongs to self?' Because self is not found, the basis for imputation as self, what belongs to self, is also extremely difficult to find. Just as when a chariot is burned, its parts are also not found because they are burned, so too, when yogis realize selflessness, at that very time they will also realize that the objects of the aggregates, what belongs to self, are selfless." Thus, it is said that when self is realized to be without inherent existence, what belongs to self, the aggregates, are also realized to be self, i.e., without inherent existence. The *Entering the Middle Way Commentary* also states: "Because of focusing on the own-being of form, etc., it becomes perverted, and therefore one will also not realize the selflessness of persons, because of focusing on the aggregates, which are the basis for imputing self. As it is said: 'As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, so long there is clinging to self.'" Thus, it is said that if one does not realize that the aggregates are without inherent existence, one will not realize the selflessness of persons. If the wisdom that realizes that persons are without inherent existence is the very same wisdom that realizes that the aggregates are without inherent existence, then there is the fault that the two wisdoms that realize the two selflessnesses become one. Since phenomena and persons are separate, the two wisdoms that realize their lack of inherent existence are also separate, just like the wisdom that realizes that a pot and a pillar are impermanent. If the wisdom that realizes that persons are without inherent existence does not realize that the aggregates are without inherent existence, then how can it be established that one realizes that the aggregates are without inherent existence when one realizes the selflessness of persons? Since the first question is not accepted, the following question will be discussed. The wisdom that realizes that persons are without inherent existence
