Because both the Madhyamakalankara and the Aloka state this. Other great Madhyamikas do not consider the mere meaning of cutting off elaboration by reason to be the ultimate truth, so it is not good. On this, Master Yeshe De says: When the noble father and son Acharyas composed the Madhyamika treatises, they did not clearly state the principle of whether external objects exist or not. After that, Acharya Lekdenjye refuted the Yogacara-only doctrine and established the principle that external objects exist in conventional truth. Then, Acharya Shantarakshita, relying on the Yogachara treatises, created a different Madhyamika system that shows that there are no external objects in conventional truth and that the mind has no self-nature in ultimate truth, so two kinds of Madhyamikas arose. The former is called the Sutra-following Madhyamika, and the latter is called the Yoga-following Madhyamika. This explanation seems to reflect the order of events. However, Acharya Chandrakirti believes that external objects exist in conventional truth, but he does not conform to the views of other philosophical schools, so he cannot be called a Sutra-following school. Similarly, it is very unreasonable to think that he agrees with the Vaibhashika school. The scholars of the later dissemination in the land of snow call the Madhyamikas the Prasangika and the Svatantrika, which is in accordance with the Clear Words and is not considered self-made. Therefore, whether or not to accept external objects in conventional truth is certain, and even if we name them according to the way of generating the view of realizing emptiness in the mind, they must be Prasangika and Svatantrika. So, which of these Acharyas did they follow to seek the intention of the noble father and son? It seems that they followed the great Lord Atisha, who mainly followed the tradition of Acharya Chandrakirti, so the great lineage lamas of this instruction also mainly uphold that tradition. Acharya Chandrakirti saw that among the commentators on the Root Wisdom, Acharya Buddhapalita fully explained the intention of the noble one. Therefore, he based himself on that tradition, and also took many good explanations from Acharya Lekdenjye, and refuted those that seemed slightly unreasonable, and thus explained the intention of the noble one.

The commentaries of these two teachers are considered to be outstanding in explaining the treatises of the noble father and son. Therefore, here, we will follow in the footsteps of the teachers Buddhapālita and Glorious Chandrakīrti to ascertain the intention of the noble ones. Third, regarding the manner of establishing the view of emptiness, there are two parts: the stages of entering into suchness, and actually establishing suchness. The first is: Here, what is the suchness of nirvāṇa to be attained? And how does one enter into suchness, the method of attaining it? If one thinks in this way, then all the various outer and inner dharmas, although not suchness, appear as suchness, and all of this, together with its habitual tendencies, is pacified. The grasping of self and what belongs to self is completely extinguished. This is the dharmakāya, the suchness to be attained here. The stages of entering into suchness are: First, one must contemplate the faults of saṃsāra and become disgusted, and one must have a desire to abandon it. Then, seeing that it will not turn back unless the cause is reversed, one thinks about what the root of saṃsāra is, and investigates its root. One must have a deep and firm conviction that the view of self or ignorance is the root of saṃsāra. One must have a genuine, unfeigned desire to abandon it. Then, seeing that the cessation of the view of self depends on the arising of the wisdom that realizes the selflessness of what it grasps, one sees that the self must be refuted. If one wants to attain liberation, one must rely on the scriptural statements and reasoning that harm the existence of the self and establish its non-existence, and thereby gain certainty. In this way, after determining that there is not even a little bit of inherent existence in self and what belongs to self, by familiarizing oneself with the meaning of the view that has been attained, one will attain the dharmakāya. As it says in the Clear Words: If the afflictions, actions, bodies, agents, and results, etc., all of these are not suchness, but like a city of gandharvas, etc., although not suchness, they appear to children in the form of suchness. Then, what is suchness here? And how does one enter into suchness? It should be said: Because inner and outer things are not found, therefore inner and outer are
