That is, focusing on the body and focusing on speech. Many such things have been said. It is also quoted in the commentary on the Lamp for the Path. Among them, to hold the mind on the body of the Buddha, because it is remembering the Buddha, generates limitless merit. If the body is clear and stable, then prostrations, offerings, and prayers, etc., are fields for accumulating merit, and confession and restraint, etc., are fields for purifying obscurations, there is a great difference in focusing on them. As quoted earlier from the Samadhiraja Sutra, the merits of not degenerating from remembering the Buddha at the time of death, and the great difference in deity yoga when practicing the secret mantra path, etc., show many necessities. Regarding the benefits of this and the way to remember the Buddha, it is most clearly recorded in the Samadhi Sutra where the Buddha is now present. As stated in the Third Series of Meditation Stages, it must be understood there. Here, I have not written it because I am afraid of too many words. Therefore, finding an object of focus that can both accomplish samadhi and incidentally obtain other special benefits is skillful means. Then, what kind of Tathagata's body should be used as the basis for focus? The Third Series of Meditation Stages says: On this, the yogi should first settle the mind on how he sees and hears the body of the Tathagata, and thereby practice calm abiding. The body of the Tathagata is also yellow like the color of pure gold, adorned with excellent marks and signs, dwelling among the retinue, and constantly remembering that he accomplishes the deeds of sentient beings by various means. By this, generate desire for his qualities, and pacify sinking and agitation, etc. One should meditate until it appears as clearly as if he were dwelling in front of him. Thus it is said. The Samadhiraja Sutra also says: With a body like the color of gold, the protector of the world is always adorned everywhere, whoever's mind focuses on this, that bodhisattva is called equipoise. One should use such a body as the basis for focus. Among them, the two types of newly created and naturally abiding, the latter has a great difference in generating faith, the common vehicle of.

It also corresponds, and it should be clarified in the manner of being naturally accomplished. First, when seeking a basis, an object of focus, on which to hold the mind, one should seek a very fine image of the Teacher, such as a painted or cast statue, and look at it again and again, grasping its characteristics and accustoming oneself to its appearance in the mind. Alternatively, one should contemplate the meaning of what one has heard well explained by the lama, and let it appear in the mind, and seek an object of focus. The object of focus should not be in the form of a painted or cast statue, but one should train to make it appear as the form of the actual Buddha. Some people place a statue in front of them and meditate by staring at it with their eyes. This is forbidden by the teacher Yeshe De, which is very good, because samadhi is cultivated by the consciousness of the mind faculty, not by the consciousness of the eye. Therefore, the actual object of samadhi is the actual object of the consciousness of the mind, so one must hold the mind on that. As explained earlier, one must focus on the general meaning or the appearance of the image of the actual object of focus. Regarding the gross and subtle parts of the body, it is said elsewhere that one should first focus on the gross part, and when it is stable, one should later focus on the subtle part. From experience, the gross part is very easy to appear, so one should make the object of focus from the gross order of the body. What is especially important is that until one has achieved a samadhi that is similar to what is described, it is not permissible to move to many different kinds of objects and meditate. If one meditates on samadhi by moving to many different objects, it will become a great obstacle to the accomplishment of calm abiding. Therefore, in the authoritative texts on the cultivation of samadhi, such as the Sravakabhumi and the three stages of meditation, it is said that when one first cultivates samadhi, one should only focus on one object, and it is not said that one should move to many objects. The noble Pawa also clearly said, "When stability is on one object, the mind's thought should be stable. Because of moving through many objects, the mind becomes disturbed by afflictions." This is what he said in the context of cultivating dhyana. In the Lamp for the Path, it is also said, "On any one object, the mind should be placed on virtue." Saying "one" is the certainty of
