I am the adaptability of the body. Likewise, when one rejoices in abandoning afflictions, what obstructs it is the negative state of mind that belongs to the side of afflictions. When striving to abandon afflictions, the mind, being separated from being unable to delight in focusing on a virtuous object, enters the object without obstruction, is the adaptability of the mind. Thus, the scholar Lodrö Ten said: "Here, the adaptability of the body is the lightness that arises from being able to perform one's own actions of the body. The adaptability of the mind is the calmness and lightness of the mind that enters into correct attention, and the cause of becoming light, which is a different dharma born from the mind. If one possesses this, one enters the object without obstruction, therefore it is called the adaptability of the mind." Thus he said. In short, if one attains pliancy, although one wants to strive to abandon afflictions, just as work is bad, it is difficult to enter one's own actions with attachment, and the unadaptability of body and mind is reversed, and body and mind become very easy to use and possess. Such a complete adaptability of body and mind also arises from the first attainment of samadhi, with each small part arising, and from that gradually increasing, it eventually becomes very pliant and a single-pointed calm abiding. That is also subtle and difficult to know at first, but later it becomes easy to know. The Hearing Ground says: "At the very beginning, even when striving for correct practice, the arising of extreme pliancy of mind and extreme pliancy of body, and the adaptability of mind and body, is subtle and difficult to examine." And, "When that single-pointedness of mind and that extreme pliancy of mind and body increase, like this, one cause from one to another, taking in a continuous manner, leads to the single-pointedness of mind that is coarse and easy to examine, and the extreme pliancy of mind and body." Thus it is said. The preliminary sign of the arising of pliancy that is complete in characteristics and easy to examine is that a person who diligently meditates on samadhi experiences a feeling of heaviness and stiffness in the head, but it is not an uncomfortable heaviness. As soon as that arises, one becomes separated from the negative state of mind that obstructs the joy of abandoning afflictions,

Its antidote is to first generate an extremely pliant mind. As stated in the Śrāvakabhūmi: "When will the coarse and easily observable samādhi, as well as the premonition that mental and physical pliancy will arise before long, arise? At that time, a feeling of heaviness in the head will arise, but this is not a sign of harm. As soon as it arises, it will abandon the obstacles that delight in abandonment, as well as the bad mental abodes that belong to the side of afflictions. Its antidote is the arising of mental fitness and extreme mental pliancy." So it is said. After that, relying on the power of the arising of the pliancy of mental fitness, the wind that becomes the cause of the arising of physical pliancy will flow in the body. When that wind permeates all parts of the body, the body will be free from bad abodes.
