However, once recognized, it is immediately cut off, and after cutting off, the power of diligence is generated to make the continuous flow longer without being interrupted by the opposing factors. When this power arises, diligently practice, and when familiarity becomes profound, the ninth stage of mind, which enters Samadhi without effort, is accomplished. Therefore, before attaining the ninth stage of mind, a yogi must make effort to place the mind in Samadhi, but after attaining the ninth stage of mind, even if no effort is made to deliberately place it, the mind will naturally enter Samadhi. Even if such a ninth stage of mind is attained, if pliancy is not attained, as will be explained later, it still cannot be considered to have attained Shamatha, let alone Vipassana. However, if one attains such a Samadhi adorned with bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, it is considered that non-conceptual wisdom has arisen, combining meditative equipoise and post-meditation. In particular, many people seem to think that this ninth stage of mind, as described from the perspective of the Hearer's Ground, has completely fulfilled the completion stage of Anuttarayoga, which will be explained later. Regarding the four ways of applying the mind: In the Śrāvakabhūmi it says: For these nine stages of mind-abiding, it should be known that there are four ways of applying the mind: forceful engagement, intermittent engagement, uninterrupted engagement, and spontaneous engagement. Among them, for settling and rightly settling, there is the application of forceful engagement. For gathering, closely settling, taming, pacifying, and closely pacifying, there is the application of intermittent engagement. For single-pointedness, there is the application of uninterrupted engagement. For Samadhi, there is the application of effortless engagement. That is to say, in the stage of the first two stages of mind, one needs to strive forcefully, so it is forceful engagement. Then, in the stage of the five stages of mind, because of the interruption of excitement and dullness, one cannot maintain long sessions of meditation, so it is intermittent engagement. Then, in the eighth stage of mind, excitement and dullness cannot interrupt, and one can maintain long sessions of meditation, so it is uninterrupted engagement.

Then, for the ninth mind, there is no need to interrupt or constantly exert effort, so one settles into the mental application of entering without effort. Now, if the first two minds have interruption and entry, and the middle five minds also require diligence, why is it not said that the first two minds have the mental application of interruption and entry, and it is not said that the middle five minds have the mental application of entering after diligence? Because for the first two minds, the difference between the mind entering samadhi and not entering samadhi is that the latter is very long. For the middle five minds, abiding in samadhi is very long, so the latter is designated as having an interruption of samadhi, while the former is not. Therefore, although both have entering after diligence is the same, because the circumstances are different, the presence or absence of interruption and entry is different, so these five minds are not established as having the mental application of entering after diligence. Thus, if one abides in the accumulations mentioned earlier and constantly cultivates the diligence of accomplishing samadhi, one will achieve tranquility. If one only cultivates once or twice and then abandons the practice, it will not be achieved. As it is said in the Compendium of Perfections: "The yogi who does not interrupt should diligently cultivate meditation. If one rests again and again, just as rubbing wood will not produce fire, so too with the practice of yoga, one should not give up until one has obtained distinction." So it is said. There are three criteria for achieving tranquility through meditation: indicating the boundary between achieving and not achieving tranquility, generally indicating the way to proceed on the path based on tranquility, and particularly indicating the way to proceed on the mundane path. The first point has two parts: indicating the actual meaning, and including the signs related to mental application and the resolution of doubts. The first point is: As mentioned before, if one understands well and cultivates the way to maintain samadhi, the nine minds arise in sequence, and the ninth mind is free from subtle sinking and excitement, and can be maintained for a long time. Moreover, if one obtains a samadhi that enters spontaneously without relying on the effort of constantly maintaining mindfulness and awareness, then has one obtained tranquility? It will be explained that obtaining this samadhi has two situations: obtaining extreme familiarity and not obtaining extreme familiarity. If one has not obtained extreme familiarity, then
