As previously stated, if a Bodhisattva who has received a prophecy does not generate anger, they can perfect the path to enlightenment in one kalpa. If they generate even one thought of anger, even if that path is not abandoned from their mindstream, it is like slowing down the progress on the path for the duration of one kalpa. In short, just as eliminating non-virtue does not require eliminating all of its effects, is it not the same that destroying virtue does not require destroying all of its effects? However, this is very important, and it seems that it can only be analyzed by relying on the words of the sole Buddha and the reasoning based on them. Therefore, one should carefully study the scriptures and analyze them. Thus, causing the ripening of extremely undesirable results for oneself, and preventing the arising of immeasurable desirable results for others, are unseen faults. The faults in this life are: not experiencing the peace and tranquility of the mind, losing the joy and happiness that one had before, and not obtaining future joy and happiness, being unable to sleep, and losing the stability of the mind abiding in its natural state. If anger is strong, even those who have previously shown kindness will forget their kindness and kill them, friends will become weary and abandon them, and even if one tries to gather them with generosity, they will not stay, and so on. The *Bodhicharyavatara* says: "Holding a mind pierced by the thorn of anger, one does not experience the peace of mind, one does not obtain joy and happiness, one cannot sleep, and one loses stability and cannot be at ease. Those who have been supported by wealth and respect, and have relied on those who have given them kindness, even those lords and masters, filled with hatred, will attack and kill. Anger makes friends weary and leave, even if gathered by generosity, they will not stay. In short, there is no happiness for those who are abiding in anger." The *Jataka Tales* also say: "The fire of anger makes the face pale, even if adorned with ornaments, it does not appear beautiful. Even if lying on a fine bed, the mind is tormented by the sting of anger. One forgets the accomplishment of what benefits oneself, and tormented by anger, one goes to the evil path. One declines from fame and accomplishment, and one's glory fades like the face of the waning moon. Even if one is strongly restrained by friends, anger causes one to fall into the abyss. In the mind, one loses the ability to distinguish between benefit and harm.

Sa. Mostly contradictory, the mind becomes ignorant. Because of anger, one becomes accustomed to committing sinful deeds. In the lower realms, one experiences suffering for hundreds of years. Having done great harm, what more can an instigating enemy do than that? This anger is an inner enemy. Since I know this, who can tolerate the diminishing of its power? Thus it is said. One should repeatedly meditate on the faults that arise from anger, gaining a firm conviction. Thus, in the Bodhicharyavatara, it is said: "There is no evil like hatred, and no austerity like patience. Therefore, one should diligently meditate on patience in various ways." As it is said, first seeing the benefits and faults, then striving to cultivate patience through various means. The reason for the first line is, in the commentary on the Bodhicharyavatara, it is said: Just as the amount of water in the great ocean cannot be determined by scales, so too, the limit of ripening there cannot be determined. Therefore, the sin of causing undesirable results and harming virtue is none other than intolerance. As it is said, even if it produces a very large undesirable result, if it does not destroy the root of virtue, then it is not so great a sin. However, there are many misdeeds that combine both producing severe results and destroying the root of virtue, other than hatred, namely, the wrong view of denying cause and effect, abandoning the Dharma, and greatly despising Bodhisattvas and Lamas, etc., and generating arrogance, etc., which should be understood from the Compendium of Trainings. There are three divisions of patience: Not minding the harm-doer, accepting suffering, and patience of conviction in the Dharma. First, there are two ways to generate patience of not minding the harm-doer: Preventing intolerance towards the harm done by the harm-doer, and preventing displeasure at the harm-doer's prosperity and joy at their decline. The first has two parts: Preventing intolerance towards the obstruction of happiness and the interference of suffering, and preventing intolerance towards the obstruction of respect, etc., and the three actions of insult, etc. The first has two parts: Showing that it is not appropriate to be angry, and that one should be loving.
