Thus, there are many differences in what is permitted and prohibited in the higher and lower vehicles and in the two, Sutra and Tantra. For one person to practice these, it is contradictory for the ignorant who lack the power of intelligence to seek the intention of the vast scriptures, but it is not contradictory for the wise, which is done by wisdom. Likewise, there are endless instances of things that are contradictory to those without wisdom but not contradictory to those with wisdom. Although there are many permissions and prohibitions in the establishment of the two truths and between the scriptures, this is the supreme praise of wisdom, that wisdom distinguishes that their intentions are not contradictory. In short, all qualities arise from wisdom, just as: Like a mother's love for her child is like wisdom, What wonder that such perfection arises? The Sugata's ten powers are the excellence of power, All unequaled and supreme deeds, And all other collections of qualities, Arise relying on such wisdom as their cause. In the world, treasures of craftsmanship, And how many scriptures are like eyes, Completely protecting wisdom and mantras, etc., The various distinctions of the Dharma that are established, The various names, the various doors of liberation, With this and that aspect of benefiting the world, The powerful sons of the Buddhas show, All these arise from the power of wisdom. So it is said. The fault of lacking wisdom is that without wisdom, generosity and so on are like being without eyes, as it says in the Compendium: Billions of blind people without a guide, How can they enter the city without knowing the way? Without wisdom, these five perfections are like the blind, Without a guide, they cannot touch enlightenment. So it is said. Therefore, generosity and so on cannot be purified, nor can correct views be obtained, because: If there is no wisdom when seeking results, The nature of generosity is not pure. Giving up self-interest for the sake of others is called the best generosity, The rest is combining for the sake of increasing wealth. So it is said. If the light of wisdom does not dispel the darkness, then one cannot possess pure discipline, because: If the light of wisdom does not dispel the darkness, Then one cannot possess pure discipline. Mostly without wisdom, discipline is pure, With the fault of knowing, it becomes defiled with afflictions. So it is said. If the mind is disturbed by the fault of wrong wisdom, then the quality of patience cannot abide in it, because of thinking about good and bad

Holding, like the fame of a king without merit. (Thus it is said) For the wise, extremely praised, there is nothing more subtle and profound than this, not completely obscured by the faults of desire, the straight path of the mind, without wisdom one cannot walk. (Thus it is said) If one holds the principle of wisdom without diligence, then his view will not be completely pure. (Thus it is said) Among them, the fame of the king means that for a king without merit, fame appears once but will also decline and disappear. Thus, the darkness of ignorance and delusion will not recede unless the great light of wisdom arises, and once it arises, it will recede, so one must strive with all ability and means to generate wisdom. Just as the great light of the sun arises, the continuums of beings are covered by darkness, but because of the great power of the light of wisdom arising, everything will be eliminated, leaving only an empty name. (Thus it is said) Therefore, one must exert all one's strength and strive for such a principle of wisdom. (Thus it is said) The causes of ignorance are: associating with bad friends, laziness, negligence, excessive sleep, dislike of discriminating thought, dislike of vastness, arrogance of thinking one knows when one does not, strong wrong views, and being discouraged by thinking one cannot and disliking associating with the wise, namely: Laziness and negligence, associating with bad friends, being controlled by sleep, a state of non-thinking, no faith in the supreme wisdom of the Sage, being oppressed by wrong pride and not asking for meaning, caused by clinging to self with a base mind, the reason for not believing in associating with the wise, the poisonous wrong thoughts and wrong views, etc., are the causes of ignorance. (Thus it is said) Therefore, one should respectfully serve the lama worthy of reliance, and in order to accomplish wisdom, one should seek to hear the Dharma. (Thus it is said) As it is said, after associating with the wise, one should hear the Dharma according to one's ability. If there is no hearing, then the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking will not arise, and thus one will not know how to practice. Therefore, if one can hear the Dharma, then by thinking about its meaning, the wisdom arising from thinking will arise, and from this, the more vast wisdom arising from meditation will arise. Among them, Glorious Hero said: One who has little hearing is like a blind person, not knowing the method of meditation. Without it, what can one think about?
