Ka. Therefore, with a steadfast mind, all downfalls should be destroyed. Thus it is said. If a practitioner does not do so, but is defeated by downfalls, yet desires to conquer the afflictions of the three realms, this will be ridiculed by the wise. If I am defeated by downfalls, the desire to conquer the three realms becomes a laughingstock. Thus it is said. This is because one wants to destroy afflictions with contempt, so it is called the pride of afflictions. The explanations of the commentators are different from this, but I think the original statement is correct. Therefore, it should be understood as cutting off reliance on others and doing it alone. That is, others cannot do it like oneself, but one thinks that one can do it, and thus generates confidence. After seeing it this way, when practicing, one should also generate such a firm mind: afflictions can only be destroyed by me, and I must never be defeated by afflictions. And one should consider the faults of breaking vows. After careful consideration, for anything that needs to be done, until a firm determination to persevere to the end is found, one should strive to practice. Generating the power of joy: Like this, through the power of strong desire and faith, generate diligence that has not yet arisen, and in order to prevent the diligence that has already arisen from regressing, cultivate the power of steadfastness or the power of pride. When entering initially, one should also enter with joy, and after entering, one should not want to interrupt the work. This mind of insatiability is the power of joy, so this power should be generated. So, how should one generate a state of insatiability? Like desiring the happy fruit of games, what work should be done with this? One should be attached to that work, and through that work, be insatiable and joyful. Thus it is said. Just like children are absorbed in games without getting tired, one should strive to generate this kind of thought. That is, just as one is insatiable with the fruit of happiness, one must also be insatiable with the work that is its cause. Because even ordinary people, who still have doubts about whether they can obtain the fruit of happiness, will strive to do it, let alone the work that is certain to produce the fruit of happiness? Although one does work for the sake of happiness, it is uncertain whether happiness will come, but if it is certain that doing something will bring happiness, how can one not do it? Thus it is said. Therefore, one should not be satisfied, because

Like honey clinging to the tip of a hair, if desires cannot be satisfied, then how much more so with the ripening bliss of peaceful merit? As it is said. Even if there is a little sweet taste to be tasted, but when licked, it is like honey clinging to the sharp edge of a razor on the tongue, although there is a little immediate pleasure. However, because this leads to great suffering in this life and the next, even enjoying satisfying desires does not seem to be satisfying. One should think, how could one not be satisfied with the accumulation of virtue that brings infinite happiness in the short and long term without fault? One should generate the thought of never being satisfied. Therefore, in order to perfect all the virtuous deeds that one engages in, one should train until one develops the thought of engaging in them like an elephant scorched by the sun entering a delightful lotus pond at midday. In order to complete such a task: Just as an elephant scorched at midday encounters a lake and enters it, so too should one enter into that task. Thus it is said. The power of abandoning is: If the body and mind are exhausted due to diligence, one needs to rest for a while, otherwise one will become too tired and it will become an obstacle to future diligence. As soon as one has rested, one should be diligent again, and if the previous one has been completed well, one should not be satisfied with that alone, but should strive for a higher goal. When associated with diminished strength, abandon it in order to do it again. If one has mastered it well, one should pursue the next, and abandon it because one wants to pursue the next. Thus it is said. This next one is important, because if one is satisfied with the previous qualities, it will become a great obstacle to obtaining many more higher qualities. This shows the method of diligence, one should avoid being too hasty and too lax, like a river, one needs to rest a bit. The glorious Makhol said: In order to be particularly excellent, you have not had the slightest relaxation, therefore your excellence, from beginning to end, has no distinction of order. Thus it is said. Poto also said: It cannot be like the fence of Semo Zhuba. The fence of the northerners, first it must be repaired, and chased before the robbers arrive. Similarly, one must extend the time of repair to do it. For example, a louse.
