Therefore, one enters into the great deeds that are extremely difficult to perform involuntarily. As it is said in the same text: With compassion as a firm foundation, The Bodhi-mind sprout arises from it, The single fruit of benefiting others is Bodhi, The sons of the Victorious Ones cultivate it. Those who are firm through habituation, They are terrified by the suffering of others, Abandoning the bliss of meditative absorption, They even enter into the Avici hell. This is wondrous, this is worthy of praise, This is the supreme conduct of the holy ones. So it is. Now, one should also generate certainty in these principles through the sayings of the great ones. Jowo (Atisha) said: The Bodhisattva who does not know how to cultivate loving-kindness and compassion, the Tibetans say they know. Then what should one do? One should learn in stages from the beginning. Langri Tangpa said: Shawawo and I have eighteen human methods and nineteen horse methods. The human method is to generate the supreme Bodhi-mind and then learn for the benefit of sentient beings. The horse method is that the Bodhi-mind that has not arisen does not arise, and the Bodhi-mind that has arisen does not remain and does not increase, because self-cherishing is an obstacle, so one should train in how to harm it by pointing it out. One should train in how to benefit sentient beings by pointing out the essence. Geshe Tonpa, a great yogi said to him, I have this and that samadhi, such as the merging of winds. He said: Even if you have a meditation that cannot be broken even if a large drum is beaten next to your ear, if you do not have loving-kindness and compassion, the Bodhi-mind, you will be born in a place where you have to confess day and night. It seems that he meant that one would fall into the causes of being born in places where there is no leisure, such as the formless realm of ordinary beings. Khamlungpa said: We Jowo treated sentient beings with such "yole" (Tibetan, referring to an affectionate term), sentient beings will also treat us in the same way. Whether the root of the Great Vehicle is established or not, and whether one enters into the Great Vehicle without artificiality, all depends on this. Therefore, one should always observe how much awakening has arisen in oneself in this regard. It is good if it has arisen. If it has not arisen, do not remain stagnant, but always rely on a virtuous friend who can explain this aspect. Always associate with friends who cultivate this aspect. Look at the scriptures and commentaries that explain this aspect.

is the cause for increasing virtue, accumulating merit; it dispels the obscurations of its obstacles. If you also train in this way, you will surely plant the seeds completely, so it is not a small matter, and you should be happy. As the great Jo-bo said: "Those who wish to enter the great vehicle, to eliminate darkness and pacify suffering, the mind of enlightenment like the sun and moon, even if it takes a hundred eons to strive to generate it." So it is said. The measure of the arising of this mind should be understood from what has been said before. Fourth, taking it with rituals: As the great Jo-bo said: "Those who wish to generate and train that mind, the four abodes of Brahma such as loving-kindness, by diligently meditating on them for a long time, eliminate attachment and jealousy, and it can be generated with the correct ritual." So it is said. After training the mind, when there is a firm conviction in generating the mind of enlightenment, one should perform the ritual of taking it. There are three aspects to this: causing what has not been attained to be attained, protecting what has been attained from degenerating, and methods for restoring it if it has degenerated. The first has three aspects: the object from whom to take it, the basis with which to take it, and the ritual of how to take it. The first is: From the order of the actions of the lama: "A teacher who possesses the characteristics." Jo-bo did not make it clear, but the predecessors considered that it is not enough to merely have the mind of aspiration and abide by its teachings, but it is necessary to have the mind of action and the vows. As Dgra-las rnam-rgyal said: "Going to the presence of a virtuous friend who possesses the vows of a Bodhisattva." It seems to be in accordance with this. In the Sutra of Ten Dharmas, the explanation of the Sravakas regarding generating the mind of enlightenment by being persuaded by others is that it is said to be taken after being persuaded and made to renounce, so it does not seem to be a ritual performed by oneself. The basis for taking it is: In general, as Dze-ta-ri said: "A son of a lineage or a daughter of a lineage, possessing a complete basis and intention." So it is said, all beings such as gods and nagas who are able to generate the mind of aspiration in terms of body and mind can be the basis here, but here it is as said in the commentary on the Lamp for the Path: "Turning away from samsara, remembering death, great wisdom and compassion." So it is said, like what was said before, it is for someone who has trained the mind in the stages of the path and has gained some experience of turning the mind towards the mind of enlightenment. There are three aspects to the ritual of how to take it, among which, there are three aspects to the preparatory ritual: performing special refuge, accumulating merit, and
