Leads, if one avoids killing, one will be reborn in a good realm and also have a long life. Taking what is not given, giving enjoyment, generating hatred, and cultivating love and compassion also lead to bad and good realms, etc. In particular, generating bodhicitta with these as the object, and practicing for the benefit of these beings, even Buddhahood depends on this. As it is said in the verses to please sentient beings, it should be contemplated that generosity and so on are perfected by relying on sentient beings. It is also said in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva's Deeds: The happiness and suffering of the world, the desired and undesired results, all arise from benefiting sentient beings and harming them. If one attains the unsurpassed state of Buddhahood by relying on sentient beings, then whatever enjoyment gods and humans have, Brahma, Indra, the powerful ones, and those who protect the world revere, is only for the benefit of sentient beings. There is no one in these three realms who has not been led by this, what is so amazing? In the minds of hell beings, animals, and hungry ghosts, the reality of various sufferings, whatever sentient beings experience, arises from harming sentient beings. Hunger, thirst, mutual beatings, and the suffering of torture, which are difficult to reverse and endless, are the result of harming sentient beings. So it is said. The Shravakas attain a lower result because they did not make great efforts for the benefit of sentient beings. The Buddhas attain the ultimate result because they made great efforts for the benefit of sentient beings. Thinking about this, one should not be attached to one's own benefit even for a moment. As it says in that very text: If there is no attachment to sentient beings, one should diligently abandon it like poison. Did the Shravakas not attain a lower enlightenment because of their lack of attachment? The complete Buddhas attained enlightenment by not abandoning sentient beings. Thus, when it is determined that benefits and non-benefits arise, how can they remain attached to their own benefit even for a single moment? So it is said. Therefore, one should know that being completely devoted to the benefit of others and the result of enlightenment arise from the sprout of bodhicitta. Seeing its root as compassion, the sons of the Buddhas take it upon themselves to cultivate it, and because they are very familiar with it, these become stable.
