Ah! Furthermore, giving that is accompanied by harm to sentient beings will not bring about any change. Therefore, completely refraining from actions that are based on harming others is the great benefit to others, so discipline is necessary. Even in the final giving, if one cannot tolerate the harm from the other side and responds with an eye for an eye or two eyes for an eye, the discipline will not be pure. Therefore, it is necessary to have patience that disregards the harm from the other side. Because by not responding, one can prevent others from accumulating many sins and can guide them to engage in virtue, so this is a great benefit to others. One's own benefit is to obtain the bliss of complete liberation through the power of wisdom, but this cannot be achieved in a state of mental distraction. Therefore, it is necessary to calm the mind through meditation and to gain the ability to abide in the object of focus as one wishes. This will not arise for the lazy, so it is necessary to exert effort day and night without tiring, which is the basis of all of these. Therefore, in order to accomplish these two goals, it is necessary to have the six perfections. Namely: To benefit sentient beings with great diligence, Giving, non-harming, and practicing patience. Abiding and liberation as the foundation, All actions are for one's own benefit. That is to say, there are no all-encompassing altruistic actions here. Abiding and liberation refer to the mind abiding in the object of focus as the result of meditation, and liberation from samsara as the result of wisdom. If these two are separated, one will not confuse shamatha and vipassana. Therefore, those who wish to practice the mind deeply should also regard this as a part of meditation, and must be convinced that the body of the six perfections is complete. In order to completely accomplish all altruistic actions, a certain number is required. First, eliminate poverty by giving away possessions. Then, do not harm any sentient beings. Not only that, but also endure the harm from the other side. By helping them, generate tireless effort. Relying on meditation, make them happy through miracles and so on. When they become qualified vessels, rely on wisdom to skillfully explain, cut off their doubts, and thereby liberate them. Therefore, it is necessary to have the six perfections. Namely: Not being poor and not harming, Enduring harm and not being tired of action. Making joyful and speaking well, For this, the benefit of others is one's own benefit. That is to say, through these two methods, in order to accomplish the benefit of oneself and others, one cannot but rely on the six perfections.

It is said that this is not permissible. If one can ascertain that both one's own and others' benefits are accomplished by it, one will respectfully accomplish it. The definite number for gathering all the Mahayana is as follows: Like this, not being attached to the enjoyment already obtained, not seeking what has not been obtained, not caring about enjoyment; if there is enjoyment, one can protect the training, therefore taking the precepts and respecting them; not being weary of the suffering arising from sentient and non-sentient beings by means of patience; being happy to engage in any virtuous activity, therefore not being weary of it; meditating on the non-conceptual yoga of calm abiding; meditating on the non-conceptual yoga of insight. These six summarize all the Mahayana of beings, and these are also accomplished in sequence by the six perfections, because no more is needed. As the verse says: "Not delighting in enjoyment and great respect, Not being weary of the two yogas, Not discriminating practices of the Great Vehicle, All are exhausted in this." Therefore, wanting to enter the Mahayana but abandoning the practice of the six perfections is contradictory. The definite number in terms of the nature of all paths or means is: The path or means of not being attached to the enjoyment of objects already obtained is generosity, because by being accustomed to giving, one becomes free from attachment to it. The means of stopping the distraction of striving to obtain an object that has not been obtained is morality, because by abiding in the discipline of a monk, all distractions of the edge of karma do not arise. The means of not abandoning sentient beings is patience, because one is not disgusted by all the suffering of harming. The means of increasing virtue is diligence, because from initiating diligence, virtue will increase. The means of purifying obscurations is the last two perfections, that is, purifying afflictive obscurations with meditation and purifying cognitive obscurations with wisdom. Therefore, it is certain that there are six perfections, as the verse says: "Not attached to objects, Stopping distraction to obtain them, Not abandoning sentient beings, increasing, And also purifying obscurations." The meaning is that for not going along with the distraction of desirable qualities, with the generosity of non-attachment, for preventing what has not previously arisen, with meaningless and non-
