Without going anywhere. In the Sutra of the Jewel in the Crown it says: He puts on the armor of loving-kindness and abides in the state of great compassion, and meditates on the manifestation of emptiness that possesses all supreme aspects. What is the emptiness that possesses all supreme aspects? It is that which is inseparable from generosity, inseparable from discipline, inseparable from patience, inseparable from diligence, inseparable from meditation, inseparable from wisdom, inseparable from skillful means. This is extensively taught. Its meaning is also in the Uttaratantra: What are those objects of inquiry? Generosity, discipline, patience, and so on. Possessing all supreme aspects, emptiness is expressed as form. Some know how to draw the head but not the rest, some know how to draw the hand but not the rest, and so on. When many painters gather to draw the image of a king, it is like the fact that even if one painter is missing, it cannot be completely finished. The image of the king is said to be like emptiness, and the painters are like generosity and so on. If the means such as generosity are incomplete, it is like an image missing the head and hands. Furthermore, if someone says that it is enough to meditate only on emptiness and that there is no need to meditate on anything else, this has been refuted by the Bhagavan himself. If that were the case, the generosity, discipline, and so on that the Bodhisattva practiced for countless eons would be said to be corrupted wisdom that has not understood the definitive meaning. In the Samgraha-viniscaya it says: Maitreya, the Bodhisattvas' proper practice of the six perfections is for the sake of complete enlightenment. To this, those foolish people say, 'Bodhisattvas should only practice the Perfection of Wisdom; what is the use of the other perfections?' They disparage the other perfections. Maitreya, what do you think? Was it corrupted wisdom that the one who was the king of Kasi in the past gave his own flesh to the hawk for the sake of the pigeon? Maitreya replied: Bhagavan, it was not. The Bhagavan said: Maitreya, when I was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva,

Did those roots of virtue, endowed with six qualities, did those roots of virtue harm me? Maitreya asked. The Blessed One said: No, invincible one. You also perfectly practiced the perfection of generosity for sixty kalpas, the perfection of morality for sixty kalpas, the perfection of patience for sixty kalpas, the perfection of diligence for sixty kalpas, the perfection of meditation for sixty kalpas, and the perfection of wisdom for sixty kalpas. However, those foolish people say this: Buddhahood is attained by only one method, namely, by the method of emptiness. Those people's conduct will become completely impure. Therefore, to say that if one has the realization of emptiness, one does not need to cultivate the aspect of skillful means with great effort is to slander one's own teacher's past good lives, saying that those were times when they had not understood the definitive meaning. If one thinks that practicing generosity and other behaviors from various doors is because one does not have a firm realization of emptiness, and that having the realization of emptiness is enough, that is also a great wrong view. Because, if that were true, then for those bodhisattvas who have realized the ultimate truth, obtained non-conceptual wisdom, and entered the great bodhisattva grounds, especially for those eighth-ground bodhisattvas who have obtained mastery over non-conceptual wisdom, there would be no need for practice. That is not reasonable, because each of the ten grounds has generosity and so on as the main one, but it is not that the others are not practiced. As it is said in the Ten Grounds Sutra, each ground proclaims the practice of the six or ten perfections. Therefore, the venerable invincible one, Nagarjuna, and Asanga also explained these meanings in that way, so they cannot be guided in another way. In particular, in the case of the eighth ground, since all afflictions have been exhausted, when abiding in the ultimate truth where all elaborations are pacified, the Buddhas will tell him that with just this realization of emptiness, one cannot attain Buddhahood, and the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas also have non-conceptuality.
