is what will abandon all afflictions. The accumulation of merit is what will cause all sentient beings to live closely. Bhagavan, thus, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should strive for the accumulation of merit and wisdom. Also, as it is said in the Noble Akashagarbha Sutra: With the wisdom of wisdom, all afflictions are completely abandoned. With the wisdom of means, all sentient beings are not completely abandoned. Also, as it is said in the Noble Sandhinirmocana Sutra: Not being very biased towards the meaning of sentient beings, and not being very biased towards all phenomena that are manifestly constructed, I have not taught as unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Also, as it is said in the Vimalakirti Sutra: What is the bondage of Bodhisattvas? What is liberation? To completely grasp samsara without means is the bondage of Bodhisattvas. To go to samsara with means is liberation. To completely grasp samsara without wisdom is the bondage of Bodhisattvas. To go to samsara with wisdom is liberation. Wisdom not grasped by means is bondage. Wisdom grasped by means is liberation. Means not grasped by wisdom is bondage. Means grasped by wisdom is liberation. Thus, it is extensively said. Therefore, desiring the fruit of Buddhahood thereafter, during the path, both means and wisdom must be relied upon, and it cannot be accomplished by separation. As it is said in the Gaya Gori Sutra: The path of Bodhisattvas, in summary, is these two. What two? Namely, these means and wisdom. Also, as it is said in the Supreme First Sutra: The Prajnaparamita is not the mother, skillful means is the father. Also, as it is said in the Kashyapaparivarta Sutra: Kashyapa, just as the kings who are governed by ministers accomplish all that is needed, so too, the wisdom of Bodhisattvas, being completely governed by skillful means, also accomplishes all the deeds of the Buddhas. Thus it is said. Therefore, one should meditate on emptiness that possesses all the excellent aspects of complete means, such as generosity, etc. If one only meditates on emptiness, it is not the path of the Great Vehicle.
