Even if complete and effort is made, the result will not occur, just as if any one of the seed, water, and soil is missing, a sprout will not grow. Therefore, in the "Middle Stages of Meditation," it says: If one diligently applies effort to the wrong cause, one will not obtain the desired result even after a very long time, just like trying to milk from a horn. If all the causes are not utilized, the result will not occur, because if any one of the seeds, etc., is missing, the result of sprouts, etc., will not occur. Therefore, desiring that result, one must rely on the causes and conditions that are not mistaken and on all of them. So it is said. Then, what are the complete and not mistaken causes and conditions? In the "Manifestation of Enlightenment," it says: Lord of Secrets, the wisdom of omniscient knowledge arises from the root of compassion, arises from the cause of the mind of enlightenment, and is perfected by means. So it is said. Among these, compassion has already been explained. The mind of enlightenment is the two, conventional and ultimate mind of enlightenment, and means is the perfection of generosity, etc., as explained by the great chariot master Kamalashila. Some Chinese monks and others who have inverted views on such a path say: As long as it is a conceptual thought, let alone a bad conceptual thought, even a good conceptual thought binds one to samsara, so its result will not transcend samsara, just like being bound by a golden chain and a rope, just like white and black clouds obscuring the sky, just like being bitten by a white dog or a black dog, both of which cause suffering. Therefore, abiding without thinking of anything is the path to enlightenment, and generosity and keeping the precepts are taught for the sake of foolish beings who cannot meditate on such definitive meaning. Engaging in those practices after finding the definitive meaning is like a king descending to the level of commoners, or like searching for the footprints of an elephant after finding the elephant. So they say. Among them, the Chinese monk cited eighty sutras praising non-conceptualization to prove it. This denies that all aspects of means are not the true path of the Buddha, greatly slanders the conventional, and prohibits the investigation of the essence of the Victor's teaching, the selflessness of suchness, with the wisdom of discriminating awareness, therefore the meaning

Having abandoned the attitude of conceit from afar, no matter how particularly engaged, it can only be compared to a small aspect of calm abiding, holding mere tranquil focus as the supreme of the path, these extremes of wrong views were thoroughly refuted by the great Bodhisattva Kamalashila with a collection of pure scriptural and logical proofs, thereby expanding the good path that pleases the Buddhas. However, as the teachings approach decline, and the holy ones who have completely exhausted the essential points of the path, who are definitively determined by decisive scriptures and immaculate reasoning, have passed away, and beings' merit is extremely shallow, and although they have some faith in the Dharma, there are many whose power of wisdom is extremely weak, even now there are still some who despise the aspects of conduct such as guarding vows, and when practicing the path, they act like the Hwashang, abandoning them. Some think that apart from denigrating the aspect of skillful means, the Hwashang's view is good. Others abandon their individual discriminating wisdom and think that the Hwashang's meditation of not thinking about anything is good. The path of these people does not appear even in the direction and realm of meditating on emptiness. Even if it is assumed to be meditating on emptiness, only those who have attained the non-inverted meaning of emptiness and who have the realization of meditating in a non-erroneous way should meditate on emptiness alone. If it is said that one should not meditate on the aspects of conduct that have conventional objects, or that one does not need to take them as the basis and does not need to strive from many aspects, then it seems to be completely contradictory to all the scriptures and beyond the path of reason. For what is to be accomplished by the Mahayana practitioners is non-abiding Nirvana, in which non-abiding in samsara is accomplished through the wisdom that realizes suchness and the stages of the path that rely on ultimate truth, as well as the so-called profound path, the accumulation of wisdom, and the aspect of wisdom. Non-abiding in peaceful Nirvana is because it must be accomplished through the wisdom that knows all phenomena and the stages of the path that rely on conventional truth, as well as the vast path, the accumulation of merit, and the aspect of skillful means. Thus it is said in the Secret Inconceivable Sutra: Accumulation of wisdom
