Since its own nature is not established, suffering will occur in the future. The latter is when suffering is established, so there is suffering in this life. Furthermore, in order to determine that there are two causes in obtaining the fruit (i.e., birth): the cause that propels and the cause that is established by that propulsion, the two aspects of cause and effect are explained. As it says in the Basis of the Compendium, "If it is said that consciousness and so on up to feeling, as well as birth, aging, and death, are of a mixed nature, then why are they shown as two aspects? This is to show the different nature of suffering objects, and to fully show the distinction between propelling and manifest accomplishment." It also says, "Among these limbs, how many are included in the truth of suffering and become the suffering of this life? There are two: birth and aging and death. How many are completely included in the truth of suffering and will only become suffering in the future? Those that become seeds, from consciousness to feeling." Therefore, craving as the accomplisher and the feeling that generates craving are not the same sequence of dependent origination. The feeling that generates craving is the fruit stage of another sequence of dependent origination. The impeller and the impelled should be understood in four ways: What is impelled? From consciousness to feeling at the time of the result, there are five and a half limbs. By what is it impelled? By the action based on ignorance. How is it impelled? In the way that the consciousness at the time of the cause is imbued with the karmic traces. The meaning of impelled is: if there is an accomplisher of craving and so on, then those fruits are made able to be accomplished. The accomplisher and the accomplished should be understood in three ways: By what is it accomplished? By grasping conditioned by craving. What is accomplished? It is birth and aging and death. How is it accomplished? In the way that the karmic traces of action that the action imbued on consciousness are made powerful. In the commentary on the Sutra of Dependent Origination, only birth is made into a limb of accomplishment, and aging and death are said to be their faults. Therefore, the non-virtuous action instigated by ignorance, which is ignorant of cause and effect, leaves the traces of bad karma on consciousness, resulting in the fruits of the three lower realms.

That which is made possible to accomplish from the consciousness at the time of fruition to feeling, is repeatedly nourished by craving and grasping, causing the karmic imprints to become powerful, leading to rebirth in the lower realms in the future, and the accomplishment of birth, aging, and so on. Furthermore, due to ignorance that is deluded about the meaning of selflessness, virtuous actions such as discipline, gathered by the desire realm and instigated by ignorance, and unwavering actions such as meditating on calm abiding, gathered by the higher realms, leave imprints of good karma on consciousness. This makes it possible to accomplish from the consciousness at the time of fruition to feeling in the desire realm's happy migrations and the higher realms' deities. That which is repeatedly nourished by craving and grasping causes the karmic imprints to become powerful, leading to rebirth in those happy migrations in the future, and so on. Those twelve limbs can also be categorized into the three paths of affliction, karma, and suffering. As the teacher Nagarjuna said, "The first, eighth, and ninth are afflictions; the second and tenth are karma; the remaining seven are suffering." In the Rice Seedling Sutra, it is said that there are four reasons for gathering the twelve limbs: if the sower of ignorance plants the seed of consciousness in the field of karma, and it is moistened by the water of craving, then the sprout of name and form will be formed in the mother's womb. Third, how long does it take to complete? Between the propelling limb and the propelled limb, there may be an interval of countless eons. It is also possible that it is not interrupted by other lives, and it can be accomplished in the second life. The accomplishing limb and the accomplished limb will come without interruption, so at the earliest, it will be completed in two lives. For example, if in a life like this one, one newly accumulates the karma to be born as a god and experience it, then at that time, ignorance, action, and the consciousness at the time of cause, i.e., three and a half limbs, and the three of craving, grasping, and existence up to the time of death, are completed. For the next life, two and a half of the propelled limbs and the two of the accomplished limbs are completed. Even if it takes a long time, it will not exceed three lives. Because the two of the accomplishing limb and the accomplished limb, and the three of the propelling limb, each require one life. Moreover, all the propelled limbs are included in the accomplished limbs. Even if many lives separate the propelling limb and the accomplishing limb, other dependent originations
