And, because of not understanding the faults of transgressions, the mind is overwhelmed, possessing these five (conditions). If these five are not complete, then it is not perfect. There are other wrong views, but the reason why this alone is called a wrong view is because it cuts off all roots of virtue and is in accordance with indulging in evil deeds as one pleases, therefore it is the greatest of all wrong views. Among them, killing, harsh speech, and harmful intent are initiated by the three poisons and concluded by hatred; taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, and covetousness are initiated by the three poisons and concluded only by desire. Lying, divisive speech, and idle chatter are both initiated and concluded by all three poisons; wrong view is initiated by the three poisons and ultimately reached only by ignorance. Among these, the mind is karma, but not a path of karma. The seven of body and speech are both karma and the basis upon which the mind engages, therefore they are also paths of karma. Covetousness and the other three are paths of karma, but not karma. Second, regarding showing the weight, there are two: the weight of the ten paths of karma, and incidentally, briefly showing the door of powerful karma. First, among the five, as for killing, the heaviest in terms of intention is that which is done with intense three poisons. The heaviest in terms of action is having a mind that rejoices and is satisfied with killing that has been done, is being done, or will be done; doing it oneself, having others do it, and praising them; feeling joy upon seeing such a situation; and doing it with a mind that has been contemplated and accumulated for a long time; doing it constantly and respectfully, killing many lives again and again, and killing by creating intense suffering, and after creating fear, forcing others to do what should not be done, killing while saying weak, painful, poor, and miserable words, killing while lamenting with compassion. The heaviest in terms of having no antidote is not taking any precepts as if passing a day, not observing the upavasa on the eighth, fourteenth, and fifteenth days of the month, not giving alms and accumulating merit from time to time, not openly praising, not doing prostrations, standing up, joining palms, and having a respectful mind, etc., not doing these things, not feeling ashamed from time to time.

Not obtaining shame and embarrassment, and great regret, and not touching the worldly detachment or the direct realization of the Dharma. Heavier than wrong view is: relying on the views of sacrificers, killing for the sake of Dharma; and thinking that livestock are transformed by the Lord of Beings for the sake of resources, so there is no fault in killing them, etc., killing based on any wrong view. Heavier than the basis is: killing huge animals, humans or those who have taken human form, parents, siblings, those like teachers, loved ones, learners, Bodhisattvas, Arhats, and Solitary Buddhas; and knowingly causing blood to flow from the Tathagata, knowing that he cannot be killed, with evil intentions. The opposite of these five causes is light killing. The remaining nine should also be known, except for the basis, they are as heavy or light as killing. Taking what is not given, heavier than the basis is: deceiving and robbing many, good, and trustworthy people, and robbing inferior, stingy, renunciates, and those who believe in this Dharma, and robbing what has already been obtained, and robbing learners, Arhats, Solitary Buddhas, the Sangha, and the property of stupas. Sexual misconduct, heavier than the basis is: having sexual intercourse with a mother who should not be approached or with someone related to her, or with the wife of a man who is loved, or with a Bhikshuni, a Shikshamana, or a Shramanerika; and putting a non-sexual organ into the mouth; and having sexual intercourse at the wrong time, such as during a vow of temporary ordination, or a pregnant woman who is full term, or a sick person; and having sexual intercourse in the wrong place, such as near a stupa or in a monastery of the Sangha. Lying, heavier than the basis is: lying about many things in order to seduce and deceive others, and lying to parents and even the Buddha, and lying to good people and friends, and saying that one is the creator of the three heavy sins such as killing. Lying in order to divide the Sangha is the heaviest of all sins. Slander, heavier than the basis is: slandering long-time friends and spiritual friends, and parents and children, or dividing the Sangha, and saying that one is the creator of the three heavy sins of the body. Harsh speech, heavier than the basis is: speaking to parents and others and to those like teachers, and speaking harsh words with true and untrue lies, and openly insulting and scolding, and speaking the eight prohibited words.
