Affliction is any of the three. Motivation is the desire to possess it as one's own. Action is to strive for that thought. The ultimate is to be certain of possessing it as one's own. It is said, thinking, 'If only wealth and so on would become mine.' For this, complete greed must have five qualities: having a mind that is particularly attached to one's own enjoyment; having a greedy mind that desires to accumulate enjoyment; completely distinguishing and savoring the good wealth and so on of others, having a mind of infatuation; thinking, 'If only what belongs to others would become mine,' having a mind of jealousy; and because of greed, having no shame and not knowing that one will certainly arise from faults, having an overwhelming mind. If any of these five minds are not complete, then the definition of greed is not complete. In the treatises of the Yogachara school, action is taught for all ten non-virtuous actions. The way to become incomplete greed is: 'Alas, if only that householder would become my servant and be as I wish'; thinking the same about his children and wife, etc., and the necessities of the body such as food; 'Alas, if only others would know that I am of few desires, very secluded, diligent, learned, and of a giving nature, etc.'; 'If only the king, the merchant, and the fourfold retinue would respect me and I would obtain food, clothing, etc.'; 'Alas, if only I would be born as a god in the next life and enjoy its five sensual pleasures; may I be born in the world of the mighty and pervasive, as the Other-Controlled Emanating One,' generating such desires; even generating desires for the necessities used in common with Brahma, such as parents, children, wives, and servants, is also greed. The basis, perception, and affliction of harmful intent are the same as harsh words as mentioned above. The motivation is the desire to strike, etc., thinking, 'If only killing, binding, or the enjoyment of others or oneself would decline for no reason,' and so on. The action is to put that thought into practice. The ultimate is to determine or resolve to strike, etc.

This is also complete when the five are complete, and incomplete when they are not. That is, with respect to the cause of harm, taking the Dharma that is in accordance with it as a characteristic, the mind of hatred arises; being unable to bear the act of harming, the mind of intolerance arises; and again and again, with non-virtuous thoughts as the cause of anger, due to recollection, the mind of holding grudges arises; thinking that beating and killing are permissible, the mind of resentment arises; and with respect to generating the mind of harm, being without shame and not knowing that it arises from faults, the mind of overpowering arises, that is, being endowed with these five minds. Merely transforming into the mind of harm is when one thinks, "This has harmed or is harming me," and for the sake of harming that one, all that is thought is the mind of harm. Likewise, wishing for the decline of others' relatives, possessions, and virtues in this life, and wishing that they would go to a bad rebirth in the next life, is also the mind of harm. The basis of wrong view is the meaning of existence. There are three aspects to thought, among which perception is to perceive the meaning of slander as true. Affliction is any one of the three. Intention is the desire to slander. Action is to initiate action on that thought. There are four aspects to it, namely, slandering cause, effect, action, and existing things. Slandering cause is saying that there are no good deeds or bad deeds, etc. Slandering effect is saying that there is no fruition of the two. There are three aspects to slandering action, namely, slandering the action of planting and holding seeds, saying that there are no father and mother. Slandering the action of going and coming is saying that there is no past or future life. Slandering the action of becoming born is saying that there are no beings born miraculously. Slandering existing things is saying that there are no Arhats, etc. The ultimate is to definitely slander. This is also complete with five, namely, because of not knowing the knowable as it is, the mind of delusion arises; because of delighting in evil, the mind of violence arises; because of definitely thinking about non-virtuous Dharma, the mind of constantly engaging in wrongness arises; because of slandering by saying that there is no giving, offering, homa, or good conduct, etc., the mind of extreme decline arises; and because of that wrong view, there is no shame.
