One should rely on rough treatments such as bloodletting. Separating from the life force is to see that the disease is incurable and to generate suffering, contemplate these in detail. Also in the Extensive Play Sutra it says: "With hundreds of diseases and dense suffering, beings are tormented like humans hunting wild animals. For beings conquered by old age and sickness, quickly tell the source of suffering. For example, in late winter the wind and snow are heavy, grass and trees freeze, and the luster of forest medicines is also taken away. Likewise, this disease takes away the luster of beings, causing the senses, form, and strength to diminish. Wealth, grain, and great riches are ultimately exhausted, disease constantly despises beings. It harms and hates suffering, completely afflicting like the sun in the sky." Thus it is said. Thinking about the suffering of death also has five aspects: Separating from the enjoyment of excellent abundance, separating from the root of excellent abundance, separating from the retinue of excellent abundance, separating from the body of excellent abundance, and experiencing intense suffering and discomfort at the time of death. Until one develops aversion to these, one should contemplate them again and again. The way the first four become suffering is: seeing that one is separated from those four abundances and feeling suffering. Also in the Extensive Play Sutra it says: "Death, transference, death and transference at the time of death, the cherished and suffering beings are always separated. They will not return and will not meet again, like leaves falling from a tree, like the flow of a river. Death makes even those with power powerless, death seizes like water carrying wood. Humans go alone, not as two, without companions, without power even with the fruition of their own actions. Death holds hundreds and thousands of beings, like makaras in the ocean for the assembly of beings. Like garudas for nagas, lions for elephants, like fire for the assembly of grass and trees." Thus it is said. Thinking about the suffering of encountering the unpleasant also has five aspects: merely encountering enemies and the like, suffering and discomfort arise; and being in a state of terror because of being cut off by punishments; without interruption, that is, fearing because of bad words; fearing death as if facing an abyss.

I, fearing that after dying from violating the Dharma, I will fall into the lower realms, contemplate these. The suffering of separation from what is loved is also contemplated in five ways: when separated from the most cherished relatives and so on, sorrow arises in the mind, lamentations are uttered from the mouth, harm is inflicted on the body, longing torments the mind by remembering the qualities of that place, and the enjoyment of it is not fulfilled; contemplate these. The suffering of seeking desires but not finding them is also contemplated in five ways: it is similar to separation from what is loved. Seeking desires but not finding them is like cultivating but not obtaining a harvest, doing business but not making a profit, and so on; whatever is hoped for, even if sought diligently, is not found, resulting in the suffering of disappointment. In short, the meaning of the statement that the five aggregates of grasping are suffering is also contemplated in five ways: they are vessels of manifest suffering, vessels of suffering dependent on manifest achievement, vessels of the suffering of suffering, vessels of the suffering of change, and having become the nature of the suffering of conditioning; contemplate these again and again. The first of these is: relying on taking these aggregates of grasping, suffering from future lives onwards is drawn forth. The second is: it becomes the basis for aging and so on, which depend on the aggregates that have already been formed. The third and fourth are: the negative habits of those two sufferings are connected in succession, thereby generating those two sufferings. The fifth is: merely the achievement of the aggregates of grasping gives rise to the nature of the suffering of conditioning, because all conditioned phenomena that are caused by previous karma and afflictions and are under the control of others are the suffering of conditioning. This will be explained in detail in the context of the three sufferings. If genuine renunciation does not arise towards the nature of cyclic existence of the aggregates of grasping, there will be no place for the genuine intention to seek liberation to arise, and great compassion cannot arise for sentient beings wandering in cyclic existence, so this contemplation is very important, whether entering the Great Vehicle or the Small Vehicle. The arising of this renunciation also requires following the stainless scriptures and reliable commentaries, seeking pure understanding, and then engaging in prolonged analytical meditation that distinguishes.
