Guard them well. Especially, if you are afflicted by the root downfalls, although it is possible to restore them, the continuum will be ruined, and it will be very difficult to generate qualities, so strive not to be tainted by the root downfalls. Strive not to be tainted by the branch downfalls, and even if you are tainted, purify them through confession and restraint. Because vows and precepts are the foundation of the path. Then, according to the lower tantras, learn and practice well the yoga with signs, and according to the higher tantras, learn and practice well any of the generation stage yogas. Once that is stable, according to the lower tantras, practice well the yoga without signs, and according to the higher tantras, practice well any of the completion stage yogas. Such a way of arranging the path is explained in the Lamp for the Path, and the Stages of the Path also guide in the same way. In other texts, the great Atisha also said: In the Condensed Essence of the Methods of Practice for the Great Vehicle: "Possessing immeasurable greatness, if you wish to attain unsurpassed enlightenment, since the attainment of enlightenment depends on practice, diligently engage in practice, making it the essence. The body with leisure and endowments, is extremely difficult to find, and has now been found, and will be extremely difficult to find in the future, so strive to make it meaningful through practice." And: "Just as a prisoner from a prison, when an opportunity to escape arises, without mixing with any other affairs, escapes from that place, so from this great ocean of samsara, when an opportunity to cross over arises, without mixing with any other affairs, escape from the house of existence." And: "With refuge and the superior ethics, abiding on the basis of aspiration, well hold the bodhisattva vows, and for all the bodhisattva practices, such as the six perfections, gradually practice them as much as possible." And: "What is the essence of skillful means and wisdom? Meditate on the yoga of calm abiding and insight." And, in the chapter on the Samadhi Collection: "First, arising from the power of compassion, stabilize the mind of perfect enlightenment. Do not cling to the pleasures of samsaric enjoyment, turn your back on complete grasping. Faith and other wealth are abundant, respect the lama as equal to the Buddha. Those who possess the vows taught by him, completely protect and diligently strive. Obtain the vase and secret empowerments, completely through the kindness of the lama. Body.

Speech and mind are pure, the practitioner is a vessel of accomplishment, arising from the limbs of samadhi, from the complete accumulation, one will quickly attain accomplishment, thus is the principle of secret mantra. Thus it is said. Secondly, the necessity is: If the Dharma categories of small and middling individuals are the preliminaries for great individuals, then it would be sufficient to practice them as the stages of the path for great individuals. Why is it necessary to use the term "common stages of the path for small and middling individuals"? There are two great necessities for guiding the three types of individuals separately: In this way, even before the mind of small and middling individuals has arisen, it also subdues the arrogance of those who claim to be great individuals, and it is beneficial to those of superior, middling, and inferior intellect. The way it benefits is: Because superior and middling individuals also need to seek higher realms and liberation, showing the cultivation of the minds of these two for the great and middling individuals to be guided will not become a fault, and it is for the sake of generating qualities; if it is an inferior individual, then even if one practices from the superior, the superior mind will not arise, and if the inferior is abandoned, one will become nothing. Furthermore, for those who have the potential for the superior, if the common path is taught and practiced, then either it has already arisen, or even if it has not arisen before, those qualities will quickly arise, so when the lower and lower arise, it is sufficient to guide the higher and higher, so there is no delay in one's own path. The reason why the mind must be guided gradually is: In the Sutra Requested by King Dhāraṇīśvararāja, the wise jeweler used the example of gradually polishing jewels to give instructions, but because he was worried about too many words, he did not write it down. The Protector Nāgārjuna also said: First is the Dharma of higher realms, later it will definitely produce goodness, because after obtaining higher realms, goodness will gradually come. Thus, it is said that the path of higher realms and definite goodness has a sequence. The noble Asaṅga also said: Furthermore, Bodhisattvas, in order to gradually and completely accomplish the direction of virtue, first teach the easy Dharma to sentient beings with the wisdom of children, and make them follow the easy instructions and teachings. When they realize that they have medium wisdom.
